I recently ordered a .223 Wylde upper from Precision Firearms for my first AR build and I haven't received it yet, but I was curious if anyone on the forum had any experience with their stuff.

This is the upper I ordered:  LINK

It has the 23 inch stainless steel Dan Lilja Bull barrel - pretty stoked about that

One reason I went with Precision is because I couldn't get any of the big producers to answer the phone, answer an email, nothing, notta, zilch.  Rock River took my order for a 20" H-bar Coyote, but aside from a confirmation email saying they had no idea when it would be built and an authorization charge on my credit card, I've received nothing.

A friend suggested calling Precision (they'd built a custom 25-06 AR-10 for him) so I did.  Nobody answered the phone and based on my other experiences with the other manufacturers I didn't bother with leaving a message.  I figured I'd X them off the list, but lo and behold an hour later my phone rings and it's the owner saying "I had a missed call from you."  He answered all of my questions and told me exactly how to order so I did it on the spot.  He told me they had eveything to finish my upper except the barrels and they had a shipment from Lilja on the way.  That was about a month ago, and he told me 6 to 8 weeks.  Even if it takes 12 weeks It'll be better than many of the alternatives.

Anyway,  Have any of you had any experiences with this company?  Any comments on the specifications for this upper?  I'm new to these firearms and don't even have a complete one and I'm hooked already, so any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

I searched around for a while for a company to build me a precision upper for my special purpose rifle. After quite an exhaustive search I found many people who have nothing but good things to say about Precision Firearms (that includes some of their competition). That said there are many people who have bad things to say about them due to their recent no credit card policy (makes sense to me when everyone is cancelling orders left and right) and the difficulty in getting a hold of them. Mark the owner is who I have talked to multiple times and I have found that it is easiest to send an email, if they don't get back to you in a couple of days then call them. I have had a few days where I called and had no one answer but they did call me back the same day or the next. Mark was willing to discuss my custom built upper in detail even though they are swamped. I have every confidence that my SPR upper with hand lapped Lothar Walther 18" Stainless barrel and match grade bolt and carrier will out shoot me when it comes. My payment was received by Precision on 2-4-13 I was informed that it would take 2-4 weeks to build and then I will have to wait for shipping. I am happy to wait and pay for what I really want in an upper rather than buying a lower quality/ less accurate upper for the same amount or more due to panic prices. bfree27 I think you have made a wise choice in builders.

Thanks for the response.  I can understand the Credit Card Policy as well, because you know they're are getting killed with orders and cancellations.  I ordered a lower from Alexander Arms and I've been tempted several times to try to cancel it, simply because they won't answer my emails or phone calls and I've since bought several lowers.
