Ok so i am fixing to by a dpms ap4 308. i have a few 223. and i want a little more range and knock down power on an AR platform.
my question is "am i going to get more range" after reading this months guns and weapons for law enforcement they said that the dpms sportactical .308
was only good inside of 100 yards.
so am i going to get more range from bumping up calibers.
and why did they say only good inside of a 100 yards, is it the barrels length or what?
and after reading this you will realize i am pretty new to this stuff.
thanks for all the helpful input...

Maybe they meant without any sights. If you put on sights or a scope it should be accurate too about 300 and 800 yards respectively. YMMV

The .308 has the .223 beat for long range work.  The .260 has the .308 beat for long range work.  Look at the bullet BC's and velocity and you will see that tha .260 ballistics are better than the .308, which are better than the .223.  But to say the .308 is only good inside 100 yards?  I don't think so.  Maybe 1000 yards.  Was it a typo?  You have to go to a 175 to keep a .308 supersonic past 1000 yards, but it's not that big of a deal.  The .260 is still better.

It's a typo, I have the DPMS LR308 with a 16 inch barrel and it shoots well with the optics I have past 300 yards.  Maybe more but I don't have a longer range to practice on.
