Ok, a couple of years ago, I purchased a Mega upper from another member who had accidently squeezed it while removing the barrel...  apparently he didn't have an action clamp so he was using blocks of wood to clamp it in a vise.... I've inserted a BCG, and it is snug near the back of the ejection port, would it be safe to use this for a build, or is it nothing more than an inexpensive paper weight?

Thanks, Dan

Make sure it isn't cracked anywhere. drive a wedge in the slot in the bottom just enough to spread it so the carrier slides through without restriction.

It's a roll of the dice. When it comes to risking my vision, hands, etc, I don't think I would take that bet. Mega is sexy though...awesome paperweight.

The receiver does not contain any pressure. the barrel, barrel extension and bolt contain all of the pressure unless the case lets go and that isn't determined by the receiver.

^^^ This.  There is no risk of catastrophic failure based on an undersized BCG raceway...however, I would want to make sure the area where the barrel extension seats doesn't have any cracks in it, which still wouldn't risk a kaboom, as guys have proven after driving over an AR15, then shooting it, even with a cracked upper in that area.
