I've got a couple of A1 & A2 Carbines that I want to mount red-dot sights on.  Long-term sight will probably be a SPOT, but for now an Aimpoint Clone.  Anyway, I decided to try to get some decent mounts that allowed low mounting, since an Aimpoint on top of the carry handle is kinda high.  Also wanted relatively quick detach-ability. These are economy rifles, so I didn't want to break the bank.

The mount configuration is the Aimpoint Gooseneck mount combined with the Aimpoint QRP (without spacer).  The problem is that when trying to co-witness the sights, the front sight post is really-really low in the Aimpoint window.  l  tried using a real Aimpoint and it didn't make any difference.

I was under the impression that the QRP with spacer was specifically for a flat top and the Gooseneck/QRP (w/o spacer) combo was specifically for the A1/A2.  Anybody got any experience with this?

It is all a matter of tastes. You can have the Aimpoint cowitness in the lower 1/3 of the sight. Just a matter if you are used to it thats all. It is probably better that way since the front sight is not in your sight picture and blocking out your view.
