I bought an EO 552 specifically for hunting and I have a very big problem with it.  After being in temps below 35 degrees the reticle is only visible in the lower 3rd of the glass and very dim.  Let it warm up its just fine, cool it down it goes right back to lower 3rd and dim.  I tried brand new batteries but that made no difference.  I'm not a rich man but I didn't want to pull any punches with my new hunting optic and now I have issues.  Please tell me I am doing something wrong or there is an easy fix...

You need to use Lithium batteries. Alkaline batteries die in cold weather. Even new ones...

I have ran mine for work here in Alaska a -35 and had no issue, it even sets in my patrol care over night in the cold and no issue.

Regular AA's or lithium?  I hope this is my problem.  I have regular AA's in it.

Use lithiums only.

Like previously mentioned...lithium batteries only for extreme temperatures.  I run lithiums only and we get temps well below zero...never experienced a problem of any sort.  If the AA lithium batteries don't solve the issue looks like you're sending it back for a repair!

Well I got out again this weekend with some lithiums.  The problem was much less apparent but the reticle still dimmed if you put it in the upper half of the glass.  I still happened managed to take a doe with it on Monday.

Well..less apparent is a step in the right direction but it sounds like it still needs to go back.  If it can get you through deer season wait until your hunting season is over and then mail it back.  Your optic needs to be 100% reliable or you will not be confident in using it again.  EOTech has excellent customer service and they will make it right.
