I purchased 1k rounds of Hirt SS109 today at the funshow in Valley Forge, PA. Took it to the range and kept having problems with the bolt carrier moving forward and not stripping a round out of the mag. Sometimes the bolt carrier would go all the way into battery and sometimes not. I tried several mags with no luck. Tried the ammo in my friend's AR and the same thing happened. Any suggestions?

Tuff break ,can you return it to the vender ? I always get the venders name and phone and ask if it's as is ,if it is i walk. lot's of deals from honest venders on the board.

The vendor seemed to be and honest guy. At the time of purchase, he gave us his business card and told us he has a shop in up state N.Y.(Dutchess co.) so I don't think it will be a big deal to get a refund. I just wanted to make sure before I gave him a call that I wasn't missing something stupid. The ammo seems extra hot and maybe is not meant to function well in the AR platform(can you tell I'm new to this?).The bolt is moving so fast that it appears there is not sufficient time to strip a round out of the mag. I have read many times in this forum postive feedback about HIRT 55gr but never the 62gr SS109.

I have never used hirt 5.56 ,but if the weapon fuctions fine with other ammo and not with this than dump it fast .the hirt 7.62x51 is great I never had a problem with it .I sugest xm193 or q3131a if you must have ss109 m855 the most reliable [for me] has been IMI from wiedners or Botach . I would try one of these and if the weapon fuctions fine it's the ammo .what chamber does your rifle have .223 or 5.56 ? what brand rifle and is it clean and lubed?

Looks like the problem has been solved(sort of).
Went back to the range today and gave the Hirt another try with my Blue Label Colt. It digested the ammo just fine. The first time out I was shooting a Colt lower with a Vltor telestock and a Colt 20" govt profile upper. I am surmising at this point that the heavier buffer in the A2 Blue Label made the ammo function more reliably. Both configurations have historically functioned flawlessly with XM193.

Was it COLLECTOR RIFLE & AMMO 1-845-227-4100??? I went there bought some HIRT .223, no range time with it yet, but they (CRA) looked to be a reputable business.

Edited to add.

Lion_Dog,

Yes, it was Collector Rifle and Ammo. He told me that he would be at the Harrisburg show later this month. Did you buy the 55gr or 62gr. When you get a chance to send some down range let me know what king of results you have.

Good question, IIRC it was 55gr.

I'll let you know my range results.

I just bought 500 rounds of "hirt" ss109.  Amazingly, the headstamp is identical to Olympic SS109, NPA 01.  Doesn't seem to honest to me.  I did test it in my tactical carbine and it did function fine though
