I have a stag15 lower with the mil spec buffer tube and a BCM upper with a 16" BCM carbine barrel.  I am using the Osprey 416 kit.  I bought the lower used and am not sure if that buffer tube and buffer are the original ones or not.  When shooting it seems like the bolt is not cycling back far enough to pick up the next round.  Sometimes is will pinch the next round halfway in the chamber.  I was using Federal .223 in the bulk packs from Wal-Mart.  What are the possible problems here?  Would this be a ammo issue or buffer problem?  Thank you.

Which buffer are you running? Keep in mind your kit might be for 5.56 and .223 may not be generating enough pressure to run your rifle. I would look at the buffer first, then go from their. Try the easiest/cheapest solutions first then go from there

I am not sure what buffer it is, I bought the lower used.  The buffer tube is a Mil spec tube if that makes it easier to tell.  I was kinda thinking it is because I am using .223 not 5.56 and there is not enough pressure to cycle the bolt all the way.  What buffer can I switch to, to fix this?  I would like to be able to shoot .223 in this.  Thank you.

If it's a standard buffer it will be blank, have an H, H2, H3 on it. The higher the number, the heavier it is.
H2 is usually recommended for a carbine but if you are shooting steel case lower powered ammo, you may have to use a standard carbine buffer or H for it to cycle completely.

Have you tried calling Osprey? I have read that they have excellant customer service. Whenever I have problems I find it's sometimes qiucker to start at the source.

I took it apart and it is a standard buffer, no markings. I am gonna call Osprey today. I found the problem too late yesterday to call them so I figured I would post something up here too.

Call Osprey I know they have had problems in the past with heat treat on the gas cyclinders and sometimes an undersized piston cup call them and ask for Joe.Another thing make sure the piston rod slides freely and the barrel nut notch is perfectly lined up for the rod.I have 3 Osprey systems on 2 Colt socom and 1 Bushmaster 1/7 M4 profile all 14.5 / phantom barrels.I use H3 buffers but have tried using 9mm buffers and the rifles cycle with everything even black box wolf and military classic with no problems..call Osprey you may need a new piston cup theyll take care of you.

Shoot some 5.56mm full power rounds through your gun first. Those Walmart value packs are super weak. I couldnt get an M249 to cycle full auto using that stuff. It turned into a 1 shot wonder. Once its broken in, then you can use anything.

You shouldnt have to brak it in it either cycles or it doesnt nothings weaker than wolf so anything else should be fine..call Osprey and give them the serial# theyll tell you if its an older kit whos cup needs replacing.

I have 2 kits, one fail zero and the one with the problem which is a regular kit.  I switched the 2 kits out and the fail zero kits runs without any problems.  I have already talked to Osprey and sent the kit back to them to have everything checked out and replace what is not right.  Thank you for all of the input.

Well after talking with Joe at Osprey, we narrowed the issue down to recoil spring.  Joe recommended I switch to a Wolff reduced action spring.  Got the new spring in and swapped it in the rifle and now it shoots like a dream.  Customer service for Osprey is top notch.  Joe stuck in there with me to narrow the problem down and knows these rifles like no one else I have ever seen before.  I would defiantly recommend Osprey to anyone.

Osprey technical support rocks! Joe had recommended me also try reduce power Wolf buffer spring with an H buffer for my 7.62x39 upper.
My gun cycle and running like a mad machine. Here is my AR parts.

Osprey 416 HB piston system
E.R Shaw heavy duty carbine lenght barrel.
Stag A3 carrying handle
Yankee Hill 7.62x39 receiver and their flash hider.
Mega lower
All springs are by Wolf

I'm not saying this is your problem, but my buddy had the same issue with a rifle he built - turned out the M-4 feed ramps on the barrel were like 0.020 (twenty thousandths) off and jammed every single time after the first round was fired. The end result was he had to buy a new barrel. He purchased the barrel at the local gun show from an unknown dealer and regrets it!

He has a new Stag Arms barrel and runs flawlessly
