Hello,
recently I checked the headspace of all my ARs, because I converted my Adams Arms Gas Piston 14.5" AR back to direct impingement (I wanted it to be lighter again). So, I was just taking off the gas block and piston rod. And I changed the bolt carrier, of course, and replaced it with my original bolt carrier. Now, the problem that I have is, that after the conversion I tested my rifle with my .223 Rem. headspace gauge set and found out, that the GO headspace gauge did not fit into the chamber! That is something, I really don't understand, because the bolt head should lock with the GO gauge and of course not with the NOGO and the FIELD gauge. But like the NOGO and the FIELD gauge, the GO gauge also does not allow me to lock the bolt head. During my conversion I did nothing on the barrel. I did not take it off, nor anything else. The strangest thing is, that even with the Adams Arms bolt carrier, the bolt head does not lock up with the GO gauge in the chamber, BUT the rifle worked absolutly perfect before! I also can chamber a dummy round without any problem and without any marks on the dummy round either! Does someone have an idea, what is going on with my rifle? Best regards Moe |

No one can guarantee that you can shoot that weapon without any problems on the available information.
It really depends on what your actual headspace is. You can try swapping bolts to see if a different bolt will pass. I have found a number of barrel/bolt combinations that failed the Go gage; I have also always been able to find a bolt to go with the barrel and pass. |
