I was wondering if anyone had problems with Bushmaster's mini y compensator? I got my rifle Bushmaster XM15-E2S about 2 years ago. I keep the weapon super clean and I rarely use it. I maybe got 500 rounds thru it. The other day I was using it and I felt something nick my cheek and I was bleeding a tiny bit. I was thinking it was a peice of the jacket or something ricocheted back and got me. I thought it was weird. I got home and broke the rifle down to clean it. I ran a bore snake and it was snagging on something. I noticed chunks from the holes drilled in the compensator was missing. I stuck a q tip inside to clean around and fragments came out. I'm thinking that a peice blewback and got me. The holes are drilled at an angle that are directed back. I sent and email to Bushmaster with pics on Sunday. I know it's only been a few days but I'm itching to here if this has been a problem for them or anyone.

That's normal.
The Bushmaster Y comps all have their side ports drilled at back angles. The slight wear you see inside the ports is gas erosion caused by the hot, high-speed gas pushing the bullet. Those chuck are carbon accumulating in the baffles. A screwdriver or a punch should be able to scrap most of that stuff out of your ports. Unless the bullets are actually striking or grazing the baffles, all is normal. USSA-1 |

IMO That looks more like a strike.. Some info on barrel threads and them not always being perfectly concentric to the bore... http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=130&t=158403 Even using the cheapest of cheap ammo I dont see that few of rounds building up enough carbon to do that Id shoot a message to the guys at adco and get their advice FWIW |
| I thought it was carbon too, but the way its broken does not follow the milling lines. I think I will just get rid of it. I know it is pinned and welded over. Here in Jersey I need 16". I really don't to spend $200 +for a new barrel. I thought Bushmaster would have helped me out with this. They don't offer it anymore for some reason. I really don't want to deal with Bushmaster products if they can't even get back to me. I don't think my local guy can handle this kind of job, they struggled just to put my stock on and left vise marks on my upper. My next question is which compensator to get? I saw the Tromix Shark which I think is awsome looking. Any recommendations? |
