On my first build I went back recently and installed a YHM Specter length FF tube.  When removing the original barrel nut it didn't come off to slick.  Matter-of-fact, I started busting off teeth using my barrel nut wrench.  I ended up resorting to a pipe wrench and got it off.  Since I was using the YHM nut it wasn't that big a deal.

Most recently, I did another build where I tightened the nut a little too far past the gas tube line-up point.  When I tried to back it off a little there was no go.  Again, started busting off teeth with my barrel wrench.  I again resorted to the pipe wrench to loosen it up a tad.  The barrel nut still works, just not as pretty with the handguards off.

I'm guessing that I'm going a little too far with the torque.  I didn't use a wrench, just did it by feel.  On the next build I did I didn't try to over power things.  Just snug and it was already pretty close to the gas tube line-up.  I think my barrel nut wrench may be opening up a bit as well.  With only three builds I wouldn't have thought it was ruined.  I forget the make/model of the wrench, I got it from Brownellls.

Any comments are welcome,

Sounds to me as if your being abit overly frugal w/ the anti-seize or whatever lube your using......

I had that problem before too, the barrel wrench I was using was a bit oversized. I replaced the wrench and the problem went away.

Never had a problem getting my nuts off. I use plenty of lube also.

Less torque.  Torque wrench would be helpful.  Are you using the correct tighten twice before aligning the gas tube technique?

Use anti-sieze/moly grease.

Better wrench, for example, this one.

which contacts more teeth and won't slip.

I made sure that the threads were clean on both ends and then applied a touch of moly grease.  I also tightened up the nut a little, backed 'er off, did that again, and then worked on lining up the next hole.  I'm thinking my wrench may be the problem.   I really like the looks of the DPMS wrench Gamma.  I think I'll replace mine and see if that resolves the situation before my next build.
