| Damn its amazing what you learn when you pay attention! I posted a thread a few weeks back expressing my curiosity about what is under the FSB as far as indexing it after removing or installing, I have looked at my FSB and I discerned that there had to be a keyway milled into the barrel or which made no sense even to me that the taper pins would have an arc in them to get around the barrel when installing- WRONG, I see the indexing notches clearly - thanks RYJONES |
The front sight bases are installed, then the two holes are drilled for the taper pins. The holes generally just cut grooves in the barrel, but if drilled a little higher, you get complete holes in the lower edge of the barrel. A DPMS barrel that I saw recently was unparked and had holes. My Colt was parked and had grooves. Since the holes are drilled after the FSB is installed at the factory, it makes swapping FSB's problematic, as the holes may not be in the same place on both of them. |
