So in the past I’ve always gone with the LaRue lt105 mount for anything with the mini-Acog footprint. But looking at the MI mount it is about half the price. I’ve always had good luck wit MI products in the past, but it’s been a hot minute since I’ve used anything from them and have no experience with their optic mounts. How do they compare to the LaRue mount? How well do they maintain zero and return to zero if you take the optic off the rail?

Thanks in advance…

I use them and ADM on mine and no issues

The only reason I prefer those over Larue is their solid cross bar, the shorter cross bar does not work with scalaped, lightened rails on some non-ARs.

You might also look at ADM’s offerings — they have a few choices.  The B5 is compact (same length as the mounting foot), and it puts the scope at around 1.67” IIRC. The B2 is lower but longer. There’s also a new cantilever version, but I didn’t know the model number.

I haven’t tried the Larue or MI mounts, and so I can’t really make a comparison, but I’m happy so far with the ADM’s.

The ADM AD-B2-C was designed specifically for the PA prisms. It allows for better eye relief and using a low profile rear sight. The Gen III MBUS fit under it just barely but Gen II do not. If running the 3X it’s definitely the best option. If it’s the 1X the eye relief won’t matter much.

I'm completely satisfied running that exact setup.

Spent this past week looking for the same solution.

The MI is OK for the 1x with its long eye relief, but not so good for 3x/5x if you still want backup irons.  They have to mount so far back that the MI puts the optic way too high (for me anyway) w/cantilever spacers just to clear the iron.

Best options I've found for 3x/5x (and 1x) are ADM or Trijicon.

ADM AD-B2-C: made for the PA micros, but fixed height/offset, no options to adjust

ADM AD-B2-STD: like MI but no built-in spacer, allows use of all the standard PA spacers/cantilevers.

Trijicon Q-Loc mount: not "true" QD, but "tool-less"

Trijicon Colt Knob mount: like above, but pure thumbscrew

Everyday prices are kinda steep, but I found some reasonable

ADM AD-B2-STD: $79.80 at Brownells ($67.83 with 15% off $200+ memorial day)
or ... https://www.brownells.com/optics/rings-mounts/scope-bases/acogmodular-bases/?sku=100004583

Trijicon Q-Loc: on the EE right now for $50, retailers all too much

ADM AD-B2-C: not in-stock at any vendor that I've found yet

I just ordered 2 of the AD-B2-STD, will report back when they arrive.

Honorable mentions.  I rejected them just for cost (way above my budget) but good mounts

Trijicon AC12035: discontinued now, but still available (uses Bobro lever)

https://www.eurooptic.com/AC12035-Trijicon-Trijicon-Compact-ACOG--Quick-Release-Low-Mo.aspx

Bobro B08-001-002: (single-screw mounting, and rather fat)

I appreciate the rundown… Out of curiosity, do you know how close the ADM AD-B2-C matches the height of the PA base plate? I prefer the straight spacer and with the one the PA comes with it’s about perfect, but it all comes down to the base plate height.

I took a chance and ordered the MI mount. Hopefully it works, but if not I may return it and try the ADM mount. I guess worse case scenario is I get a new appropriate RS optic adapter for the SLx and it’ll go on my AK and I’ll move my Aimpoint T-1 to this AR.

Don't know personally, but ADM claims 1.5" centerline for the AD-B2-C, while PA claims 1.535" for the straight spacer.  I doubt you'd notice 0.035" difference.

Mounting a 1x, or 3/5x?  I prefer the 1.64" high cantilever spacer w/3x.

Well you’re in luck, I happen to have extras of the ADM AD-B2-STD, Midwest MI-QDTAM and the PA SLX 1x micro prism.  See pics and measurements below.

With the cantilever base pcs that come with the PA SLX 1x, you can make something very similar to the ADM AD-B2-C.  The MI QD base looks better because it is shorter (same length as the PA base).  The ADM base is longer and looks a little out of place because it is longer.  The PA SLX has three mounting holes that it uses with its bases/ extensions.  You can only use two of them with the ADM and MI bases but that will not be an issue.

I prefer the Midwest base because the height works for me and it does not look out of place once you start adding spacers or the cantilever pcs,

PA base height from rail - .1625 in
ADM AD-B2-STD height from rail - .2300 in
Midwest MI-QDTAM height from rail - .4955 in

The MI Mount came in today… Without a riser it’s a little lower than a T-1 on a standard LaRue mount and gives me absolute co-witness.

One thing I have noticed is there a little front and back play with the Mount between the picatinny rails. I can adjust the torque to a point there is no play, but then it’s so tight the QD feature is useless. This is true regardless of which of the 6 AR’s I’ve put the mount on. Is this normal?

It’s also moderately annoying that the hex wrench they included doesn’t actually fit the included screws.

Before I got my first ADM I read reports of both MI and Bobro having movement. Thought it was primarily with lightened rail cut receivers like Aero Precision uses so I went with ADM and no movement at all.

None of my MI QD mounts have play once attached to the rail.  I even just tried the two new MI QD mounts.  Not sure if it matters but I always push my mounts forward before tightening them.  Maybe I’m misunderstanding what you mean?

You don’t need a wrench to adjust the MI mount.  You can adjust it with your hands by pushing on the lever side when unlatched and turning the screw with your hand.

Idk if I have a defective midwest industries mount, but mine has an issue where if you press too low on the release button to swing out the lever it can cause the whole thing to go off kilter and you have to spend some time messing around with it to get everything to line up properly again. I personally will not be buying another midwest industries qd mount. For reference this is not one for a prism or microprism optic, it's an 30mm scope mount.

I bought 3 of those MI mounts for my 3 PA micros and all three have the same issue, on multiple uppers.

@-OdieGreen-

How do you like the 3x PA optic?  I've got an 18" upper that needs an optic, this seems like a solid choice for it.  Also, any issues with eye relief?

For a perfect view through the optic the eye relief is longer than a 3X mini ACOG, but shorter than an LPVO. I believe it’s 2.7” at max exit pupil. However, the realistically useable range is pretty dang good on it. The eye box is definitely bigger than a mini ACOG or any LPVO I have at 3X. The LPVO will just be further from the eye. Despite the bigger eye box, it still has a better field of view with whatever magic they worked out in these

I’m a big fan. I own two and while I think there are higher quality made prisms (ACOG), I don’t think there is a better engineered prism if that makes sense. I was a pretty harsh critic of the previous generation prisms. I would say the glass on the new models is way closer to the quality of an ACOG than it is to the old models.

They aren’t perfect by any means, but for a general use carbine I haven’t found a better fit.

Brownells took their dear sweet time getting these shipped, but finally ...

SLx 3x on ADM AD-B2-Std mount.

Using the PA medium cantilever bar in the middle ADM holes. Puts the cantilever flush with the end of the ADM, leaving the least space between mount & BUIS, but means using only the 2 forward holes on the PA bar.

Problem is, the 2 middle ADM holes aren't the same spacing PA holes.  PA holes are 0.625" space, ADM holes are 0.600", 2 screws won't fit.  I believe the 3-hole compact ACOG is 0.625".

In the photos, optic is mounted with only 1 screw. While 1 screw might be fine for most use, I'm not comfortable with it, so I'll be doing some judicious dremeling on the ADM to get 0.625" for 2 screws.

Base is longer than need be, but suits me better than others  Ideal would be AD-B5 minus the built-in riser.

ps, the ADM height above rail is 0.240", not 0.230".  So optic will sit @ 0.077" higher than stock base.  Add that to PAs published heights.

I can’t find my standard to measure but mine mounted up. It’s lost in my junk gun part bin for a reason though. If you have the PA on an AR at standard height don’t consider anything but the B2-C model that’s made specifically for the PA micro prisms.

Well, there's the rub, the B2-C was on my list to check out, but ultimately doesn't fit the bill.  Being a single fixed height & offset, it eliminates all the options of the PA cantilevers/risers.

The B2-C is a VERY nice looking mount, integrates well with the PA micros, will likely be great for most.

But unlike most, I prefer a longer LOP and a more heads-up view. I set up the photos with the mid-cantilever just to see where it put the eyepiece relative to the stock PA mount, and it does get a bit more rearward, just still not enough for me.

I'll be swapping it out for the longer/higher cantilever (gets another 0.67" extension).

ps. saw your photos earlier in the thread about built-in handguard QD holes.  Nice looking rig!

Ah bummer. Yeah if you need more height the B2C is out. I had my standard on my 1X for a bit but I didn’t like the way it lined up. The mount pocket bolt holes were good, it just didn’t sit right in the mount and didn’t look very sturdy.

For illustration. The long/tall cantilever provides more rearward offset than the shorter ones.

... and a bit more height. Mounted in the same place as before, compare to photo above.  Much more to my liking.

ADM and MI already make a 3-hole compact ACOG mount (just the right length), but both have built-in vertical risers.  Would be nice if PA were to collaborate with one of them, to re-make those w/out the risers, optimum for PA micros to allow use of the stock mount options.

I've sent email to ADM asking what the hole spacing is supposed to be, but no reply in 24 hrs.

The MI works ok… I don’t like the cantilever on the 1x so the straight riser gives me absolute cowitness. I’d prefer it a little higher to match the standard RDS height, but it’ll work.

Understood. If it works for you, that's great.

But the 1x is a different animal than the 3x/5x, and the solution depends on if you want back up irons or not.

The 1x has very generous eye relief, so it can be mounted forward on straight riser to clear the rear flip up for co-witness.  QD not really needed.  I've got one mounted that way on another rig.

The 3x/5x though, have very short (relatively) eye relief, have to be set back much closer to the eye. Then, if you want back-ups, the optic has to go on a cantilever, at which point back-ups are useless w/out QD.

Different stokes for different folks

I've got the MI QD mount for mine. Nice mount but it's too low for me at 1.41" with the PA microprism. Makes it a PITA to use with ear pro and my head naturally wants it a touch higher. With any of the included PA spacers it looks goofy and puts the optics higher than I want.

Does anyone know of any .10-.20 straight spacers for the mini-acog? If not I'm going to have to switch to an ADM mount.

Little late to the party of this one, but whatever. I had the same issue, thought it was adjusted perfectly but it quickly developed a bit of play on the rail. Next step of adjustment made the locking lever way too tight. Had to use an extra set of hands, a block of wood and mallet to tap it open.

Here's what I did. Degreased the QD hinge area and mounted/dismounted it 15 or so times at the super tight adjustment. This seemed to help wear the hinge area in a little bit. Wear gloves so you don't wreck your fingers on the rail. After working it in dry I added a couple drops of oil to the hinge area and now it's still pretty tight but perfectly useable without too much trouble.
