I posted this as a response to a question in the TNVC forum and it was suggested I move it on over here.

After a year of mounting/dismounting DaTorch (which I only use on my carbine for 'yote eliination) I opted for this solution:

1. Realized I wanted something "slicker" than the regular mount.

2. I realized the ONLY mount on my AR that WASN'T LaRue was the one on DaTorch

3. I like QD

4. I had a LT flashlite mount that wasn't being used (http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=292)

5. I ordered up a (nearly) properly sized set of extra rings from LT. (can't remember the size right now)

6. Disassemble the factory Torch mount

7. Built up a ring spacer to allow DaTorch to fit snuggly in the mount linked above.

8. QD the assembly at 6 o'clock on the front of my rail

9. A bit of fiddlin' with the spacer material I was able to shim it so the T-1 dot was dead center of the beam @ 75yrds.

10.
= me

YMMV

Ridgedog, awesome post!
I have been using a borrowed Torch and even though my intention is to get a laser IR illuminator, I need a torch of my own anyway.
Based on your work, which rings from LaRue would you suggest?

IIRC it was the .915 rings. The OD of DaTorch is about .870 or so. Therefore the need for some shim material.

Just to make certain mfg hasn't changed you should really verify the size yourself before ordering. Just remember to get the size LARGER than your measurement indicates.

This is great MOD I see.  The only thing one will lose is the windage and elevation adjustments from the old mount, BUT 99% of the time the bore alignment is VERY close to center.

When you make this mod, RidgeDog, you didn't have to do anything to the torch that would prevent you from going back to the old mount?

I'm going to be ordering my own Torch and giving this a go as well.

Yep. Lost a screw...
. Other than that I could put it all back together again (you might want to make a little diagram for yourself on how it goes back together)

Thus the "shims" of small pieces of material. However, the original is MUCH easier and requires less patience
.
