this is a denny recon barrel, the block is a larue w/ 2 set screws, the barrel has a relief cut in it to allow one set screw to seat better than the other, you can see the other in the photo, just barely sticking out...as i tightened the set screw the gas block was drawn away from the fully seated position...i haven't had a chance to shoot the rifle because all of the ammo i want is sold out. IMO i don't think it should cause any problems as the set screws have seated the top of the gas block against the gas port and created a very tight seal, along with the help of red loctite

I just want to be sure and perhaps someone else on here has real world experience with the same setup....

Not sure of the question/answer since if you added the Gas block to the barrel, then you should have check to see of the gas block was designed for a little off set or not from the barrel shoulder.  The offset being a front hand guard clip the would be sistered between the block and the barrel shoulder, and the gas block port passage set back closer to the rear of the block for such.

If you want to let use know all the facts, like what you did to the rifle that would warrant you to pull or install the gas block, we might have a better idea on an answer.  As of now, if the barrel were indented for one/both of the setscrews for this gas block, then I would say that block is aligned correctly to the gas port (if you did seat on the setscrew in the indent).

well what i did was build the rifle...it's a WOA /Denny's Recon barrel, it's a LaRue gas block, the indent was on the barrel when i received it....i was thinking of the front handguard plate being the reason for the gap, and i am sure other people on here have used a LaRue gas block with one of Denny's barrels, just trying to get some other opinions based on RL experiences

here's my build

That is the correct way for it to be installed.  If there was no gap you'd have the problem I had with an upper I bought from a vendor awhile ago- short stroking because the gas port didn't line up well.
