What's the best front sight option for my latest build - a light weight flat top with an ACOG? Will a fixed front sight interfere?

Standard FSB works for me.

I've got an Uber light weight CavArms Mk II with a 16" Bushy superlight barrel. ACOG Reflex II sight, and standard FSB.  You don't even notice it.  And the carbine weighs next to nothing.  Freaked out the range nazi's yesterday

I got TA11D its 3.5x, I can't see the front sight when I look through it.

I have a 4X, and the new build will have a 16" barrel, if that makes a difference.

usually the higher the magnification the less of the blur you will see.

the length of the rifle plays a role in it as well but imo a very small one.
a std. front site will do just fine but if you think it will bother you then you could always get a folding sight. i have some with std. fsb's and some with the pri folding front site and like both. but it all would depend on what you expect out of your build

I want a very lightweight, reliable carbine. I have a flat-top upper with no F/A, an A2 flash suppressor, a collapsible stock and an ACOG, and I'm planning on one of Bushmaster's 16" superlight barrels. It'll probably just be a home defense weapon, but there's a chance that I may do some contract security work in the next couple years (like, unless the airline industry pulls out of it's power-dive).

Even with the low power compacts, you can hardly see the carbine front sight tower, the rifle though becomes more visible.

If you are looking at what you should be looking at, the target, you won't notice the front sight at all.

I had my TA11F on my issue M4 in Iraq and it served me well.

+1
Especially when you have both eyes open.   You aren't getting a TA01 series, are you??

TA01 NSN

I recently got an ACOG TA01 and posted in here that when I mounted it, I could faintly make out my front sight post. But after I situated it in a good position on my flat-top upper, it diminished the shadow of the front post significantly. Once I had it in a bright-sun environment at the range and was shooting, I never even noticed the shadow any longer. Once you get something new, you notice any little thing. After a while you get used to stuff and it becomes unnoticeable.

I have a TA01 on a Colt 6920 upper with a Larue #LT100 QD mount.

I wouldn't recommend the TA01 NSN if you have a 16" bbl because I remember reading the NSN model is set to be zerod with a 14.5" bbl and an M855 62gr round. Maybe it doesn't matter, I dunno, other members will chime in about this.

i dont worry much about the bdc'c cause there is the bdc chart tacked up top.

but with the nsn i have no comment since i have never had any experience with it, with my ta31, ta31f and ta47 i shoot both eyes open like kisara and the others have stated i dont notice the fsb cause im looking at/concentrating on what the reticle is on.

The BDC won't be that far off even if you do shoot at those unforgiving ranges that 16" carbines rarely see.   What pissed me off enough to quickly sell my NSN was the poor illumination at night with the very dim yellow tritium (yes it was new, not 10years old).   Maybe in the desert or forest, but in the urban jungle the streetlights made it impossible to clearly see the reticle.  And the useless irons up top that come from the factory way off zero.

The first time I used a fiber optic Acog, I knew I made the wrong choice with the NSN.   I no longer make my decision to buy something simply because it is, "Special Forces Issue."   If you absolutely need the precision Xmas tree reticle, go with the regular TA01.   Its red instead of yellow, and the entire reticle lights up (not just the center), and its less expensive too.   If you want the Sopmod "look", get the rare TA01-NSN-FLR which is a special order:  TA01 red reticle in a TA01-NSN housing.

I have the compact 2X TA40-2, the front sight is a blur, my recticle is the triangle amber, lights up nice. I have mine on a high mount so you have to really look down to see the blur. I think anything 2X and under you will see the front sight.

TA01 NSN

The TA01NSN was made to be mounted on the flat top of an M4.

You'll see the FS, as a shadow...but is really easy to ignore.
