Sorry guys; I know this has been covered before, but I can't find the thread...

I'm making paracord mag pulls.

Does the paracord get inserted INSIDE the magazine or is it just taped onto the outside of the mag?
Do I knot the paracord if it goes inside?
Anyone ever heard of spring/failure to feed problems because of the paracord jamming the spring?

Thanks!

I put mine inside the mags. Just melt a little ball onto the ends of the paracord & cautiously close the floorplate over the cord. I only insert 1/4 inch inside the mag. Never had a problem in over 25 years of doing this.

Of course maybe I'm lucky! Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this has worked for me.

I have a few that are done the other way.  Camo duct tape around the body of the mag and para cord going through it to form a loop.  The two ends are knotted and are held in place above the duct tape.  Been working for quite a while just fine.

Wow, thanks for the fast response.

So you don't knot the cord -- you just go with the melted ball end?
And it's never pulled out?
If that's the case, I'll be doing mine this way.

Seems like the tape route would start getting gooey and sticky after awhile.

Pull the "guts" out of the 550 cord. It will flatten easily then and will fit between the mag body and the floorplate.

Sorry I don't have a pic.

I too used the heat method to make a ball at the end of the cord.  I also had to bend the tabs up a little bit to get the floor plate to slide back on.  Once it was back in place I used a rubber mallet to pound the tabs back into place.  Here is how it turned out.  Good luck!

Try and Follow me on this one.

I use 100mph Tape and about a 6 inch length of 550-Cord. I rip the tape in 1/2 length wise appx. 18 inches.

I lay the cord on one side in the groove towards the front of the magazine. But extend the length of the end by about an inch (Later you will lay it over "Fold" over the tape)..

Tape the first end and then wrap it around  the magazine to the other side and put the other end of the cord to the rear groove and tape that ... leaving about 1 inch left above the tape.

Continue to wrap tape around the magazine and now pull up excess cord and tape over that. It secures the cord from ripping out.

Do the same to the other side.. THERE.. YOU ARE DONE...

Now.. I DONT remove the guts to make the loops a little "Stiffer" if you like to use that term. It makes it easier to quickly grab.

Its all on how you like it and how it works for you. I have done it a few ways.. but like this one the best. Less messy, no flames, no worrying about the cord getting "Worn" on the base plate. This way lasts along time. But just like anything else.. YOU have to try different things to see what you like.

Good Luck
