Hi all,

I'm rather new to ARs, and like most people I started out with a plain AR and have gradually added to it.  Anyway, my latest idea was to replace my standard Bushy charging handle latch with a PRI Big Latch...however, I'm not quite sure how to install it.  The pin that holds the original latch in is not like the other pins/parts...can I remove it?  Or do I have to install the PRI latch into a new charging handle that hasn't been pinned yet?

I couldn't find search results to answer this question, so excuse me if this is an irritating post.  I just hate to wreck a part because I don't know what I'm doing yet.

Thanks,
Matt

You just need a very small punch, or something, to push the pin out.

The HARD part is holding the latch in, under spring pressure, to re-insert the pin.  It might take several tries.

The Big Latch should fit your standard handle.  It really is as simple as it seems.

Here's another thread if you want to check it out:
Big Latch Install Thread
BTW, it's better to post something that might have been covered before, than to ruin a part because you don't know something.

1/16" punch IIRC.  It helps to have someone help you too.  Have them hold the latch and catch the spring and roll pin.  If you put the charging handle in a padded vise (CAREFULLY not to bend it) it helps so that it won't move as you drive the roll pin out.

I added on of these to my Bushmaster charging handles,  it only taking a few  minutes.
I'd used a small nail to remove the pin, once I had it the PRI latch was installed.
I made sure the  end of the pin was slightly flared,  that keep the pin from walking out.
