hey guys, im new here so not sure what forum this should go in...
Im going to start building AR's so I thought it would be a good idea to get my Federal Firearms License. I was told that you can also purchase guns at wholesale prices, almost 30% off regular price. Would you still get this kind of discount even if you only buy one or two rifles at a time? in other words, would I have to make a bulk purchase to see any significant discount? thanks in advance Alex |

its so easy to get your ffl it ain't even funny........ they giving them out like candy even to people in residential areas where the heck do you live? It's next to impossible to get an FFL where I am and it's even diffiocult for those that have them to keep them. It seems that over the last few months the ATF has racheted up the pressure on FFL's and are trying to get them shut down, especialy the small single operators and ESPECIALLY in residential areas, those will all be gone forever soon the way things going now....<><....:) |

Getting an FFL to get cheaper guns is a sucker's game. The hassles involved in getting and maintaining the license, the difficulty establishing relationships with wholesalers, and the overall hassle involved with just doing business is not a good deal. Yes, I have done it. No, I didn't "make out" in any way. And that was 25 years ago when not having a storefront wasn't a big deal.
If you [i]go into business and intend it to be your livelihood, then more power to you. Do the business setup research and get the capital you'll need to even attempt to be successful. "Kitchen table" dealers are now a very naughty word in the ATF's mind, and getting a license just to get discounts does not make them smile on you. Sorry to burst that bubble, but that's pretty much the way it is. |

If you want to assemble AR's ypu will need a manufacturers license and you will be subject to ITAR fees. You will also need zoning approval for your business location, and also approval from your HOA if applicable. Also be aware you are subject to inspection by BATFE, and they do conduct inspections of your listed business premises. So if this is your residence, they will have the ability to inspect that. Probably not going to save you any money in the long run, unless you are actually in the business of selling firearms. Also ATF does not look highly on people using FFL's other than C&R's to further their personal collections.
So it is up to you to determine if all of this is worth it to get a discount on guns. |

Building AR's or buying guns at wholesale prices? Your 2 statements above involve an 01 or and 07 FFL. Let me set you straight...if you want to get your FFL you have to convince the ATF that you intend to operate as a retail business. Selling to your best friend, brother, cousin, uncle, sister and the family dog is not going to get you an FFL. Wanting to buy guns wholesale to improve your collection is not going to get you an FFL. Selling guns at ONLY gun shows is NOT going to get you an FFL. I suggest you visit the FFL forum in Armory and read, read, read, and read some more. Ask your questions there as these guys are pretty knowledgeable and take this business very seriously. BTW...the biggest obstacle you will face is ZONING. |

Well short of driving you around to each ffl's place and having you talk to / with them,
it a little hard to convince you of the real world. anyway the 82airb might be chopping me out of here after reading these posts Ya know if you write to the atf batfe and get a copy of ALL F F L ' S then look up the issue dates and look up all the locations a (near 90,000 location task) you'll be as informed as most , maybe even a little more informed. I have found those with FFL's don't seam to want anybody else having one, shame shame.......... ok ok there is nothing i can do but say go for it OP er just here to BE HELPFULL! all bs aside |
| thanks for all the advice. sorry if i wasnt clear in my first post, im planning to sell them as a retail business, but build my own on the side (those i wont sell) I guess I'll go for it, the worst they can do is deny me, right? Also, there's another dealer pretty close to me, so zoning shouldnt be an issue. |
