Are most of the problems caused by Wolf ammo due to it being under powered?  I have never had the laquer melt problem.  The powder and primers aren't corrosive are they?

A large number of folks would argue there aren't any real problems with Wolf...and no, there are no corrosive components in Wolf ammo.

I think most of the complaints are about the laquer, but some people will also say that the cases being harder then brass will wear out extractors faster.

I shot 60 rounds of Wolf through my new Bushy and had a lot of feed problems. May have been the mags I was trying but my rifle is new (not very worn in yet) and the Wolf WAS very inconsistent. One round would go bang and the next would whimper.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I'm sticking to Q3131A. I can get it here in Austin, TX for 3.85 a box and that comes out to right about where it sells in bulk. I've never had a failure to feed with it and it's VERY consistent.

The powder and primers are not corrosive.  I believe the main issue a few people were having troubles with was the sealant (no more on the new lots) and the laquer in rare -rapid prolonged fire- related cases.  The other problems are 1. Its somewhat underpowered (not sure about new lots) 2. thick copper jacket resulting in poor fragmentation and  3. Its dirty (new lots are supposed to be cleaner) --Andrew also brought up the extractor problems above.

What problem did the sealants cause?  I'm not worried about wearing out the extractor.  The Wolf steel is a lot softer than any part in the carrier.

The red sealant would flake off and start to gum up/foul the chamber, firing pin, etc.

Would patches and the chamber brush clear the crud out?  I take it these new batches of Wolf are actually pretty good for the money.  I've always liked Wolf when I shot it, I just wanted to make sure the sealant crap and lacquer couldn't harm the rifle or future functioning.  Chamber still looks shiny...   No problems dump mags while hip firing either.

[sigh]

The red sealant is no longer in use.  It's gone to meet its Maker.  It is an ex-parrot, er, sealant.

I understand, but I've used Wolf previously, with the red sealant.  I was just wondering if a chamber brush and patches through the bore would clean it out.

I've run a ton of Wolf in the past with the red sealant... standard cleaning procedures will remove it.  Even after 700 rounds of Wolf in one afternoon... [;)]

I have never understood this extractor wear issue.

The extractor contacts lacquer coating which is softer than brass!

Cool.  Thanks for all the info.  Looks like I will be buying a lot of Wolf soon.
