[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Question about an AR

Hi there. This is my first post on this site. I don't know too much about the AR/M4 type weapons, but I want to get one and learn. I have always been an AK kinda guy.

A buddy of mine that is a Glock Armorer told me about this site and said I should get one of these to start with. http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/shop/?shop=1&cart=905815&cat=33&

This link goes to the bargain bin and the gun I am looking at getting is the second rifle - the M4 with the 14.7" barrel. Has anyone here ever order a rifle from this place? If so, are these rifles of good quality? I know my friend wouldn't steer me wrong, but I was just wondering since most new rifles like this are in the 900-1200 dollar range, and this one is 650. Granted it is used, but still.

So in you guys' opinion, would this be a good starter rifle?

And info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

CMMG has a very good reputation here. I have two of their barrels and have been quite pleased with the performance.

If you are considering a CMMG as your first rig, you are a very wise chap. You're started in the right direction. They are lots of other good choices too. Just do some reading here & you'll learn quickly what those options are.

Awesome! I had never heard of CMMG, but my buddy knows a lot about ARs and I told him my budget and he gave me that website without hesitation. Glad to hear they have a good reputation. I am excited about getting one. He said they are used, but that they basically rebuild them so they are as good as new. Thanks for the feedback !! I know you guys know your shit, so I will feel better about my purchase.

Another question - which of these top two rifles should I purchase?

There is the 16" Chrome Lined and the 14.7 (don't know if this is Chrome lined)
And what exactly does a Chrome Lined barrell do for me? Keep in mind - I know jackshit about AR's. (For Now)
