I use the same lower(Stag with a M4 stock) with my 16" 6.8 upper and my 24" 5.56 upper.

the 16" shoots normally, no noises.

the 24" gives a very loud "sproing" spring noise after each shot.

is there a problem with the shorter carbine buffer assembly on the 24" upper?

It's normal. I've noticed that it's really prominent on my A2 when I rest my earmuffs against the stock while I'm shooting.

If it bothers you spray rem oil behind the buffer actually on the spring in the tube ,should make the boing a little quiter.

Roll your buffer spring in plastic tool dip, let dry overnight and the sproing noise will be gone.
The buffer spring action noise will be really quiet when shooting with a can after this is done.
Spread the plastic dip on a flat surface and roll the spring through it getting a thin coat, a thick coat is not needed.

tool dip
.
The aluminum buffer tube and the steel spring rattle against each other when plastic and uluminum meet
there is very little noise.
Dont forget to wipe a little lube on the coated spring for even better suppressed noise.
