I have an upper/bolt assy. that I want to check the headspace on before I shoot it for the first time. I bought one of those tools from Brownell's that takes the tension off of the ejector so you can drive the roll pin out. Once I do this, how hard is it to get the roll pin out? I have a punch that should do it but it is a pretty cheap one. Any tips or tricks that will make this easier?

Purchase this headspace guage and dont worry about pulling the ejector.
Part Number 7799734, NSN 4933- 00-070-7814

99.9% of the time the rifle headspace ok.

No trick to remove, but a roll pin holder is like a third hand on install.

Thanks guys; I got the pin out (and back in) with very little effort.

I just squeeze the ejector and bolt together and use the firing pin to give it a push out, now they sell a tool to do this?? Huh.......I must be getting old, snide remarks are creeping into my head.

That would be the extractor.  You need tools to remove the ejector.
