Went to the gunshow yesterday with mt best friend and he bought a new A3 style DPMS 16" carbine. When we got back to my house to install all the goodies he bought, I noticed something strange about his AR. It has no forward assist, no ejection port cover or even a way to install one and no case deflector on the upper. What's up with this, is this some form of stripped down upper? Is this why it was only $600 new?

DPMS? Yep. Some come that way. They are making a model lately called the "sportical". An attempt at producing a lower priced AR for the masses. Will you as a civilian need or miss either? Probably not. Shoot the bugger and post back some picks! And, congrats to your buddy on the new weapon.

Hey, at least it's not a carbon15

One of my buddies brothers bought one back this spring and from what saw it seems to be fine.  The only thing that I saw that was different went firing the rifle was the brass had a larger spread when ejected.  I think that it is cleaner looking, plus like said above unless you are going to need a dust cover or a FA it is just fine for the shot for fun person.
