I purchased a 16" complete HF light weight (well, PSA light) upper back in late Nov 2011.  Received the upper within 3 weeks of ordering.  Unfortunately since AR's with all the 'goodies' are illegal in NY I have not completed the build.  That and I'm purchasing piecemeal over time.

I will be moving out of state in June but will be at BOLCII and won't reach my permanent posting till Aug 2012.  I plan on completing the rifle at that point.

Have heard nothing but good things about PSA but had a question.  One of my friends brought it to my attention that PSA was shipping rifles with canted upper FSB.  I did some googling and pulled up a couple threads, some with very noticeable cants, other one that required 20 clicks to zero.  As mentioned above, I can't exactly complete the rifle and zero to see exactly how mine is for some time yet.  Staring down the barrel the front sight looks pretty close to me, but its hard to tell.

Any thoughts?  Hopefully if it is way off, PSA will still accept a return to fix it?

Am I just being extra picky?  Should I be checking in any other way besides eyeballing?

The canted FSB issue was at the very beginning when PSA first started selling thier own assembled uppers last spring. There were very few and i haven't heard of that issue since. You bought yours in Nov so you should be GTG.  Plus PSA offers a lifetime a warranty. so relax..

Thanks, I was busy doing some eyballing and fishing line testing last night, it looks spot on as far as I'm concerned.

I'll find out when I got her all built up this coming fall.  Regardless, I've shot issued m4s that werent spot on anyways, either that or I can't shoot straight lol

You could boresight it with a laser.  You can buy them for under $20.  Probably save you some ammo on that first trip to the range and give you some peace of mind.

not a big deal as most companies have problems here and there.  it happens. look to the effort of that company to fix it, then judge them from that point.

Do you have any friends with a preban lower?  If so drop your upper onto it and make sure it's zeroed.  At most you'll be out a few bucks for a takedown pin bushing if the lower happens to be a large hole Colt.

ETA:  Where did you branch?

Three words.

Laser Bore Sight

For around $20-$25 you can buy a laser bore sight in .223 that you can chamber up and check the sight picture against. It won't be 100% accurate, but it will give you good windage and close enough elevation. Just do a google search for .223 laser bore sight. You will find many out there.
