I was digging through some ammo cans and found some boxes of PMC from around 97-98... The boxes are mostly white with red and black, and are two different sizes of boxes. Both sizes of boxes say 223A on it, 55grn FMJ Boat tail, while the smaller boxes have a headstamp saying 223 PMC, the larger boxes say PSD 97. Anyone know how this performs? I have seen reference to the older PMC being comparable to M193, but never payed attention thinking I didn't have any, and probably wouldn't ever run across it...

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Dave

I used some of it (the 223 PMC headstamped stuff) back in the late 1990s.  I don't have a chrono so can't say how it performed.

That said, I can say that you get one HUGE muzzle blast with PMC ammo.  It's not the cleanest stuff in the world.  Based on the muzzle flash alone I would say it is not M193 spec.

PMC from that date range is probably under-loaded, like most commercial ammo.  I remember an old post a few years back from Troy that said that PMC lowered the kick of their commercial ammo a while back.

I do have some PMC that was manufactured in Korea, and bears the Oct '81 headstamp.  That was supposedly loaded hotter (I don't have a chrono), but it was noticeably dirtier than, say, Fed Am Eagle or Q3131A.

Good stuff - comparable to Federal AE today.
