I'm replacing my bolt catch.  Which direction should the roll pin be driven out and back in?  Front to back or back to front?

either way.  depending on your tools, you'll probably find it easier to drive it from the front to the rear.

put tape on your receiver to prevent marring if you slip

Installing the bolt catch pin is a great place to use a pair of Vise-Grips or Channel-Locs instead of a pin punch.  Tape up the receiver around everything, and then use the pliers to gently slide the pin in place.  Now lots of people will call me a wimp for not getting out the mallet and pin punch, but there isn't much clearance around those lugs, and I have pretty big fingers, so it's a challenge to just get the punch lined up.  Using the pliers method completely gets around those limitations for me.
