Looking to order the 512  to put on a flat top Bushmaster and am curious as to whether i should put a riser under it to ensure the dot clears the fixed front sight.  If so a specific model  riser recommendation would be appreciated.

I have a 512 on my  16" flat top RRA...

No need for a riser...

It depends on whether you want to 1/3 co-witness or absolute co-witness your red dot. I like absolute, so I use no riser.

No riser here either.

This, I prefer the 1/3 co-witness for Aimpoints but if using an eotech I prefer not to use a riser.  As of right now there is a 512 on my LMT with no riser and KAC 300m rear site.

I prefer a riser for a lower 1/3 cowitness for my 512. Less sight picture interference and more comfortable cheek weld to boot.  I prefer the the LaRue mount... simple and SOLID.

I'd recommend checking out an Aimpoint T-1 before you order the 512 though.  I own both, and I liek them both, but as I discovered in a recent Carbine class, for ME, teh T-1 was faster, easier to use, lighter... just BETTER. YMMV, but you owe it to yourself to check it out.  I used to be a total EOTech fanboy until I used them side by side in the class.

No riser here, no problems.

No riser, and I use a GG&G accucam QD mount.

Nice pic M4. I need one of those GG&G QDs.

When I had my 512 I didn't use a riser, and I never had a problem with it.

no riser for me, I have a Troy rear BUIS and my EOTech co-witnessed with my irons.  I don't even notice the front sight when using the EOTech.  One thing I really like about a co-witness is you get instant verification that your EOTech is zeroed.

No riser for me, although I have a flip up front sight.

I have mine set up with no riser, for absolute co-witness. I'm actually considering switching though, have a fixed front sight on the rifle it's on.

Same here. However, when using a red dot the shooter should be focusing on the target & not the dot to begin with. Therefore it doesn't matter that the FSP is "in the way" because it will become a ghost image or shadow which shouldn't affect your sight picture.

Not to hijack the thread , but... What is a 1/3 co witness?

If I'm not mistaken, its having the BUIS visible and lining up in the lower 1/3 of the field of view through the red dot sight.

I prefer using my EOTechs with the LaRue EOTech mount.  It puts the front sight in the lower 1/3 and gives you quick detach capability with absolute return to zero.
