My buddy just bought a new POF. Not exactly sure what model, but it's a 5.56. I was checking out his rifle, and I found it odd that if you lock the bolt to the rear the operating rod will slide back and forth if you tilt the rifle. Also, I pulled out his bolt to check out what kind of extractor spring they used. The exractor spring is not retained at all. When I pulled off the extractor, the spring was just sitting there. Is this normal for a POF, or was there some kind of defect in the manufacturing? I am by no means an "expert" on the AR, but I have never seen an exractor spring that wasn't connected to the extractor, and it just seemed weird that the op rod just free floats like that when the bolt is locked back. I'm trying to find out if this is how POF designed their rifles or if I should tell my buddy to contact POF and get it fixed or replaced.
Thanks! |

That is normal. The op rod is held in the forward position by the bolt. So, when the bolt is open there is no tension on the op rod. Allowing it to slide back and forth. I don't have an answer for your question about the extractor. Yep....the op rod is like a FAL....the piston rod does the same thing. It's normal. Like 81toyota4x4.....I'm not sure what you're saying on the extractor. Sean |
| Well, we went out to shoot the POF today, and it ran just fine. I guess everything is as it should be. I still think that it's weird that the extractor spring is not retained though. However, 300 rounds were shot through it and there were no problems. It was a nice shooting rifle. |
