I am in the process of my first build and doing research for the barrel that I want to use.  I have decided that I want a 16" mid length M4 barrel 1:9 or 1:8 twist with a black (I think it's referred to as a Phosphate finish) finish.

For what I plan on using it for and from what I read I came to the conclusion that I should use a 1:9 or 1:8 twist barrel.  I have done a lot of research and the only barrels that I am finding that meets these specs are stainless steel.  I have found endless options in a 16" mid length 1:7 twist in a black finish.

Am I looking for a barrel that is not common?  Are there any recommendations that meet what I am looking for?

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Why not a 1:7?  What ammunition do you plan on shooting, primarily?

First of all thanks for the quick replies.

Based on some discussions that I have had as well as what I have read it all pointed me in the direction of a 1:9 twist barrel.  As of right now I don't have intentions of using heavy loads and didn't think a 1:7 was necessary considering I was planning on shooting with the lighter loads.

I have read the countless threads on here that discuss the differences in barrel twist and I know folks say that a 1:7 can shoot the lighter loads as well.  However I don't have any experience with a 1:7 to go out and buy one knowing I wont' be using the ammo it is intended to be used with.  That is why I was looking for a 1:9.

I would say 55 - 65 grain ammo.

I've got a bcm stainless steel "ionblack" finish...,that way you would get a 1/8 twist with a black barrel. Just a suggestion.

Yes they make a very high quality barrel, well worth the small sum you pay for it.

Look at Salt Bath Nitride Finish (Melonite)  barrels, and at 1:8 Wlyde chambering.  Melonite treated barrels are supposed to last 30% longer than chrome lined barrels and twice as long as stainless while being more corrosion resistant.   Wylde chamber shoots both 223 and 556 ammo and is often more accurate.

MidawayUSA.com has 3 pages of 16" barrels.

Why pushing 1:7 on OP?  Reality is that for what he wants to shoot it is not even close to optimal, which would be no faster than 1:9.  Were it not for milspec need to shoot long bodied tracers, they would have gone 1:8 which is plenty of spin for even the longest duty ammo that can cycle through an AR 15 magazine, and would be absolutely terrible with light varmint ammo like Hornady Superperformance 35 grain or equivalent.  We don't all want to shoot 80+ grain long range target ammo single loaded or tracers.

OP:  get a melonite (hot salt bath nitrocarburized) barrel in 1:9 or 1:8 twist in either NATO or Wylde chamber.

I would give that a shot of I hadn't just bought a sabre. Don't want to have an extra barrel sitting around. They grow into guns. Op, 1/9 or 1/8 will suit you fine. 1/9 can usually shoot up to 69gr, some 75, but not all. 1/8 will shoot 50-77 no problem. Maybe 45. You don't need to break the bank. Most non chrome barrels will shoot moa. The melonite should get you longer life, easier cleaning. I prefer chrome or treated barrels not so much for higher round counts, rather rust prevention in the bore. I hunt with my stuff, it doesn't always get babied. That's my preference though.
