| When chrome lining is applied to a barrel, how much does it affect its internal dimensions? Does the chome lining decrease the bore and chamber diameter or are barrels destined for chroming cut larger to begin with? |
I for one won't question your friend wisdom but he should consider the following: 1) Chrome has a lower coefficient of friction than the bare steel chambers. This aids in reliable extraction. 2) Chrome chambers are far less likely to get scratched from the abrasive sand than a bare steel chamber. Scratches in the chamber reduce reliablity (the expanded brass flows into it and makes it harder to extract. 3) Funny how the most reliable rifles at places like Gunsite are Colts & Bushmasters - the rifles most likely to have chromed chambers & bored and to be properly chambered (the same as an M16). |
