Ok, I am looking to either buy or build an AR within the next 6 months or so.  In the last few days, I have read a lot of information on this site!!  I have a question concerning the front sights.  I read some in the BUIS FAQ thread, and see you can get a flip up front sight.  How do you go about getting the original front sight off of the barrel to place a BUIS flip up front sight, to go along with a flip up rear?  I would see this being good so I could still mount a standard scope on the rifle with a flat-top, and, in a short amount of time, be able to take that scope off and use the iron sights.  I am thinking of the quick release scope mounts that Leupold and others are coming out with for mounting the scope on.  Any help, and explanations would be great!!

Thanks,
Marcial

The fixed iron sight will not be an issue at all.  From someone who went with a PRI flip fornt I suggest going without one for a while before deciding.  Next you need to knock out the taper pins that hold the FSB in if you want it removed.  This can be a pain in the ass sometimes.  I had to cut mine off as one pin would NOT come out not matter what I did.

Which flip-up front sight are you going to buy? I am considering the same option here.

leave the fixed front sight and just get a flip buis.

you will not see the front sight through the magnified scope

Ok, thanks for the idea to leave the original front sight in place.  It just doesn't look like there would be enough room to mount a magnified scope on the flat top, without seeing the front sight through it.

You might see the tower with a 4x scope. I know for a fact 8x and above will not reveal the scope.
