So I just picked up a stripped lower receiver and had a question about the fit of the receiver extension into the lower.
I haven't actually put together my own AR until this point and without all the needed parts, I just want to make sure I'm being paranoid and don't really have a problem. When I screw the Vltor receiver extension tube into the lower there is a fair amount of play...(the receiver tube wiggles around quite a bit). Granted, this is being done without a castle nut installed as it hasn't arrived yet. I guess I just didn't know whether the castle nut would tighten everything up and provide a solid base for the extension tube so that it doesn't wiggle once fully installed. ***NOTE*** I'm not trying to put together my lower without the castle nut/end plate, I just screwed the tube into the lower to keep it all in one place until the rest of my parts arrive and noticed the wiggle. |

There should be very little play even without the castle nut on?
I'd like to keep from naming the manufacturer as I will call them if it is actually something I should be concerned about. Just wanted to get your guy's initial thoughts to see if I was being paranoid or not. If it's something you think I should look into, I'll give them a call. I just didn't know because I have never handled an AR lower in this stage of the building process. |
| The threads in the receiver can be cut two different ways, since you choose not to name the manufacturer it is impossible to say how your receiver was threaded. There shouldn't be a lot of movement when you thread the extension into the receiver. If the extension is loose when you thread it in, something is wrong. |
