This is a picture of my current set-up, as you can see, the scope is really high, and a good cheek rest is hard to get, so I'm thinking if I just drop the carry handle completely, and use the same rings on the scope, mount it directly on the receiver??  would the front site base be in the way??  Do I need higher rings to do this??

I think I could get a better cheek rest with this set up, plus I can always put the carry handle back on later if need be.

Dependant on the magnification of the optic, the front sight will shadow in the optic.  It should be blurred out, and if you focus on the target(not the front sight) it shouldn't be much of a problem.

(DM1975 said it didn't bother him.)

Personally, I'd ditch the magnified optic and go for an Aimpoint on a carbine.  At very least, drop the scope directly onto the top rail.  A chinweld does little for accuracy and doesn't promote good form.

The scope I have now is 3-9 power.  I was thinking of a aimpoint or something else but until I can afford a good one this is what i'm working with.  Besides, all I use it for is shooting steel and tennis balls at the range and maybe a un-lucky ground hog  So do you think if I stick with my current rings on the scope and drop it to the top rail it won't be too low?? or do you think I need higher rings??

The rings Height you need for mounting to a Flat top is 1.375” to 1.5”.  You will most likely not really see the front post especially at 9x.

I am looking at my front post through a 3-9.  In three days of pdog hunting, I don't think I ever saw it once.  You should be okay.  A lot of people, me included use a riser to mount the scope and then the rings.  I use that on the pdog gun and high rings on my flat top Colt.

The best thing to do is mount it and see what happens.  If you need to get it higher you can get new rings or a flat top riser.  The height of the rings looks like they may work.

Ok, this is my situation, I dropped the carry handle, and have it mounted directly on the rail using the same rings, no problem on the front site can't see it at all.  I'm a little low though.  I'm thinking maybe a 1/2" flat top riser, as I think 3/4" would be too much, as I look though at a comfortable position, I have to look down litterally to see clearly through the scope.  would 1/2" be about right??

Anywhere have a good deal on one of these risers??  Nothing fancy just something to do the job.

You could also do low or medium rings on a scout rail. I had to use the scout rail to get my scope to clear the buis. Not sure if an Armalite would let you park an Arms 40LP under it, or if you even want to use a buis. Depends on your intended use, your eyes, etc. Good luck.

Don't worry about your front sight.

Sorry, I didn't read your last post. Most any scout rail will give you another 1/2". You going to use a BUIS?

I had not seen this. Thanks for posting it. This is a very descriptive shot of what an Acog can offer.

I was not planning on using BUIS as it's just my range gun.  I found a set of rings here that brought it up just a shade under 1/4", and it's pretty close, but still not all the way there.  I think 1/2" will do.

11BDAD, I'm looking at a riser just like the one on yours, yours is yankee hill right??  I'm thinking this would be perfect, and wouldn't look to bad.  Mine would be mounted further back, as my scope is shorter than the one in your pic.  I believe it would also help in the clearence between my scope and charging handle too.  Your riser only adds 1/2" right??

BTW, anyone know of a place that has one for a good buy???

JNK556,

It's the 5" rail, which in my thinking it adds a whole lot of flexibility. You can move it forwards or backwards. To remove it you have to remove your buis, as it slides all the way off the back. You are correct in that it adds 1/2". I put it on a grinder to remove some mass in order to move if forward and back to find the most comfortable place to park it. $39 plus shipping. Not a bad deal. The MaTech was just too high to fit with the Armalite mount.
Yes it is a Yankee Hiil riser.

Thanks, I think that's what I'm going to get.  I seen them over at cheaper than dirt, for the price you said, will probably go there.

Just ordered a riser from Bushmaster, same as a yankee hill, but about 3 bucks cheaper.  Thanks all.
