I bought a new Stag lower receiver some months back from somebody on here. It has a five-position factory telestock/buffer tube assy. on it. This stock will extend to one less position than a Bushmaster stock I have (which I know is commercial.) Is this a "mil-spec" tube on this assy.? Why is it made to extend to a shorter distance than a commercial assy.?

It's a mil-spec tube because Stag, which is CMT's retail company & they use the same parts, produces only mil-spec tubes. It has not much to do with the number of stop positions. You can also determine this by looking at the difference between the threads when compared to your commercial tube.

The number of adjustment stops seem to be a whim of the manufacturer. My Colts have four, and they are milspec.

The amount of adjustment in total length is the same, it's just the intermediate distances which are different.

This one is a tad shorter than the one on my Bushmasters. That's why I thought it was a little odd.

I just compared the stock on the Stag lower to an A2 that I had laying around. It is the same length as an A2 when fully extended, but the Bushmaster commercial stock is one notch LONGER than the A2. I am guessing that a "mil-spec" stock would be the same length as an A2? Why would a commercial stock assy. be LONGER than the standard A2?
