I'm looking at a new Armalite M15A4 Carbine. I have a budget of about $900 so I can't afford a Colt or another higher price AR. I haven't been on this site in a few years and I remember it used to be the ABC of AR's, Armalite, Colt, and Bushmaster. I know thier are new companies out there that build excellent rifles. Is Armalite rifles still as good as they used to be and would you still recommend them? Thanks alot for all the help.
Update: The rifle I'm looking at doesn't have any sights, it has a flat top reciever and flat gas block. |

I have an Eagle/Armalite midlength upper and a complete CMMG 16" M4gery. No issues with either one. I actually wanted a single rail gas block when I got the Armalite, so lacking the F marked front sight was a not a problem.
Edit to add: interestingly the Armalite bolt had the extractor o-ring upgrade installed from the factory. |
| Anybody I know who actually owns an Armalite(including me) considers them to be the unsung heros of the AR world. Every one I have seen operate in person was flawless. Everyone I've known who owned one loved it. I think considering your budget that Armalite would be one of the best choices for the money. If the 1/9 barrel isn't a problem for you. It's not a problem for me because I don't have any reason to shoot 75gr. bullets anyway. Good luck in your search, there are a plethora of good brands out there, but in your price range I think that Armalite is one of the best. BD |

BCM 16" M4 or Midlength upper for $425 + $145 for BCM BCG and CH combo + $20 handguards = $600 after shipping. Then all you need is a lower, a Spike's lower can be had for $100 + $70 LPK + $80 for stock kit, your in under budget.
Otherwise, I'd find a DDM4 if you can. But baring all else, an Armalite is a fine firearm. |

I have an Armalite complete M4 upper I bought a couple years ago when they had a 12 days of Christmas sale.
I built the rifle with a Spikes lower, RRA lower parts kit, and a Tapco M4 stock. $615.88! Total cost for all parts shipped. Build your own. My only problem with the Armalite upper is that it doesn't have an F marked front sight base. |
| I have two Armalites. They make a great rifle, but you don't hear them mentioned a lot on AR15.com because they aren't the "flavor of the day". I'm a big fan of the mid-length, and Armalite builds it with what I consider to be the ideal barrel profile (not too skinny, not too heavy). |

If you like Armalite - get an Armalite. They do usually make very pretty rifles with nice looking finishes.
However, there are things that I have noted in the 2 Armalite rifles I used to own: Gas blocks clamped on with screws and not pinned. I am not sure if they still do this - but pinned on gas blocks should be stronger. Cheap cheap cheap plastic handguards that had no heat shields and would smush if you put any pressure on them. Poorly made rail system that was not at all aligned with the upper or front sight and was very heavy. That's just my 2 cents and your mileage may vary! Remember that the current Armalite has NOTHING to do with the original Armalite that Gene Stoner worked for!

I purchased one of their midlength Christmas specials. Just last night I installed a Stag LPK in an Armalite stripped lower. Hoping to take the new kid on the block out for a test run shortly. They had a sale this year? I didn't know that. I looked around last year and don't remember anyone really doing that kind of thing. The 12 days of Christmas deal was cool when I got my upper. There was a big thread and I remember getting up everyday to hurry and see what was on sale that day. It was fun. How much was the midlength upper? My M4 upper was $378. |

The plastic handguards on my upper (purchased Dec 09) have heat shields and seem plenty rugged. |

Nothing wrong with the armalite but building your own rifle is another option. I assembled an armalite ar-10 a few months ago and so far have been happy with it.

I have never heard of an armalite being shipped with a handguard that had no heat shield. Although usually they are very nice, I have seen a few that had things like obviously canted gas blocks Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Stop changing your avatar. It's like your going "undercover".
