Hi all.
My AR-15 is a Colt SP1 lower with a Colt Government model upper (see pic). I was curious as to how difficult it is to swap just the bare upper reciever with a flat top upper? I like the lightweight barrel and prefer to keep it, but I'd also like the have a flat top reciever for mounting a scope (I dont like the scopes that mount on the carry handle).. Is this something I can do myself or do I need special tools? Also, my lower has the large holes.. What (if any) flat top Colt upper would work without needing the adapter pin? If none, how well do the adapter pins work?

Does anyone know where I can purchase a Colt flat top upper without the barrel?

And finally, how difficult is it to change the front sight to a fold down sight (not a rail mount)?

Sorry for all the questions, and thanks in advance for any help.

BTW, I'm guessing my upper is a 6520? Not sure though because it has the large hole.. Are 6520's Large hole?

I do not believe Colt ever made a flat top upper with the large holes. You will need an adapter to make your large hole upper compatible to a new receiver. They can be found just about any where that sells AR15 parts.

Changing the front site should be pretty easy, take your FH off, drive (from left to right) the two pins that hold the FSB to the barrel & slide it off. Put your new FSB on.
