I might be getting a ACOG TA47-6 in trade. I have always wanted an ACOG, but have never been able to make myself spend over $500 for an optic. My questions are as follows, any input would be great.

-This would be going on a 16’’ CAR, most shooting will be done well within 300 yards. This will be on my lightweight gun, does this optic fit the purpose of this gun?
-This model has the simple yellow dot reticle, is this a popular choice or is it an undesirable reticle?  I don’t like cluttered optics, and I have been happy with my EoTech single dot optic.
-does anyone know how large the dot is?  At what distance would the dot start to cover up a human size target?  I hope it’s further than 300 yards.
-I am not worried about being able to run with both eyes open with the 2x magnification, I have an accupoint and it works fine for me. What I am wondering is what advantages does a 2X CQB optic have over a Aimpoint or an EoTech, is it just that the 2X gives you a helping hand seeing targets at a further distance?
-How much would you pay for a used ACOG TA47-6?

Thanks everyone

That reticle is probably one of the most undesirable of all the ACOGS. I had one and it covered up a good bit of my target at 100 yards. It is nothing like the 1moa dot of an Eotech. I personally have the 1.5x16 model with the circle dot reticle just like the eotech. $500 is not a bad price for the optic. I sold mine for $475.

If you like dots, you might like that reticle.
IMO the compact acog is perfect for a lightweight carbine.

My first one was the amber dot, but now have a red crosshair.
The main thing I disliked about the amber dot was how the dot washed out in bright daylight.

I have the amber dot on my 1.5x ACOG
...the dot is quite big (6 MOA?)...it will cover a human head at 100m just fine...I guess at 300m it would cover a human body size target.
I've used this scope in a dynamic shooting match and loved it! range was from 1 to 30m.

Just as fast as reddots to me, plus you have the little added magnification for longer shots. Most people can't get past the cost of the compact acogs that is why I purchased mine used.

aiming with both eyes open will make you as fast as someone using an aimpoint
