I have a Rock River Arms post-ban M4-style barrel with the "pressed on" fake flash hider.  Like many of you, I've been thinking about having the barrel threaded and adding a flash hider when it becomes legal to do so.

I can't really tell how the faux hider is attached, but I'd imagine it might be soldered on, not just press-fitted, so it might take more than just a big wrench to remove it.  I also don't know if there's anything else that should be done along with that (recrown, maybe)?

I can get a Vortex G6 from Brownell's at a good price with my C&R discount.  As I understand it, there's not a requirement for any kind of washer system to keep it in place, so I should be able to just screw it onto a threaded barrel myself.  Is this kosher, or should I bring the part I want installed to the smith?  Or let them order it themselves?

Finally, I'm curious if anyone has gotten estimates for what this kind of operation will run?  I have no idea what gunsmiths charge, and I don't want to get treated like a guy who has no idea what gunsmiths charge by a gunsmith, if you get my drift.
