I am one part short (handguard) of having all the parts to put together my new upper receiver.

I was wondering about vice blocks.

Most of the vice blocks I've seen fit A2 and A3 uppers.  I have a DPMS hi-rider upper.  It looks to me like these wont work for me.  So if I can't use an A2/A3 vice block, what do I use to hold the reciever?

I am considering clamping the sides of the rail platform in my vice but am worried about damage.

Another idea I had was to put my lower in a vice and attach the upper to it.  Then tighten the barrel.  This might put too much stress on the lower.

My other idea was to carve my own out block of wood.  Old school, but it might work.

Any other ideas?

Use a barrel vise inserts instead...., that'll work for ya.

Wow, that was simple.  I had the right tool all along.  Thanks.

I'm getting the DPMS "Panther Claw" receiver block for that exact reason. I have no plans to build anything other than A2 and M4 uppers but you never know? I don't want to be limited if I change my mind.

Del-Ton seems to have the best price on it ($35.95)
