I've seen Aimpoint Comp MLs, and ML XDs selling in the $200 range on Ebay.
According to the Aimpoint website, this model is discontinued.
What was the purpose of this model?
Specs?
Did the XD stand for "Extreme Duty"?
Why was it discontinued?

Inquiring minds want to know.

its was discontinued because the ML2's and M2's came out...they are pretty much the same the ML2's and M2's have longer battery life by FAR and a few other improvements...Im not sure but I think the ML is the like the Ml2 being it has no NVD setting...whereas the XD has the NV setting...its either that or the XD was the slightly updated one with longer battery life...I cant remeber.  actually I think  that was it cuz I think the comp M and comp M XD was the military model with NV settings.

I have read this twice now, and cannot determine- for certain- whether the M2 and ML2 is a current product or is discontinued.

I am on the verge of yet another optic for one of my carbines and want the Aimpoint - I think.

But do not want a product that is discontinued

Consider....this Aimpoint for sale

is the CompM2 and CompML2 (among others) and the  Aimpoint web-page listing discontinued products  lists the same (I think)

please help clear this up for me.

AimPoint CompM and CompML - 2 Generations Ago, 3 MOA dot

AimPoint CompM XD and CompML XD - 1 Generation Ago, 6 times battery life improvement over CompM, 3 MOA dot

AimPoint CompM2 and CompML2 - Current Generation, 36 times battery life improvement over CompM, 4 MOA dot

The other important differences are that the older two generations used a 2-piece tube that screwed together, while the current model uses a solid one-piece tube, and that the older generations used a 10 MOA led with a "mask" that reduced it to 3 MOA, while the current model uses a native 4 MOA led and no mask.

AimPoint's electronics are the most efficient of any gun optic currently available, and by quite a margin.

Thanks for the replies.
I also got an email from Aimpoint.
Good info.
I'd like one of the newer ones myself.

Troy, if you are aware...............

Would the (reported) new 3x model(s) replace the current models or simply compliment them?

TIA

From what I have read about the 3X models is that it attaches in front the regular M2 or ML2 aimpoints. I have yet to see any of these fielded but it is suppose to twist on and off. My opinion is that we will not see many of those units anytime soon used by the military. There are too many ACOGs out there right now which are 10X better. Also this device takes up valuable rail space used by other stuff like PVS14, aiming modules, forward grips, and tac lights. It would be nice to see one though.

Both EOTech and AimPoint are working on a 3X magnifier that is intended to go in front of the existing optics.  This is due, I'm sure, to the popularity of the magnified ACOG.  However, IMO, this is a half-assed "solution" that will cause a lot more problems than it solves, and still won't be anywhere near as good as an ACOG.  The reason these magnifiers haven't been released yet, even though they've been working on them for well over a year, is because there are a lot of problems with this setup, because neither optic was designed with magnification in mind, and it is now being "added" as an afterthought.

Both the EOTech and AimPoint are excellent optics for combat and do fine out to 200m or more, but if you need magnification, then you're much better off buying an optic that was designed that way from the beginning, and doesn't have parts that you remove and replace, that can go out of alignment, with extra lenses to get dirty, or that can get lost or broken when not on the gun.

I can quite possibly agree with you on that.  But everyone loves accessories, and if they don't have to take a $900 hit at once, they are more inclined to buy.

I bet they sell a bunch of them.

Plus options have always been what AR15 accessories are about.  There is a ton of shit that I would never put on my rifle, but it seems to sell.  Something for everyone.
