What mount are you using for your Aimpoint? What part of the rail do you mount your Aimpoint, and why? At what range did you sight in your Aimpoint? What is the longest distance you can consistently shoot minute-of-man groups? How did you handle the hold-over at longer distances? What size dot were you using? Have you ever had, or heard of any bad experiences with your Aimpoint? |
GG&G cantaliver.
Mid rail. I like the balance. It leaves room for a magnifier should I choose to get one and easy access to the BUIS and charging handle.
100 yards.
300 yards for sure, possibly farther but I haven't had the opportunity to try. Hopefully I'll be able to get out to the 600 yard range this summer and give it a try.
As Michael Jordan says, just do it. But really, after 400 yards the drop starts getting pretty severe. Around 400 yards for a really good shooter may be about the reasonable maximum. Longer shots are certainly possible, but I wouldn't call it consistently doable.
I run a four minute dot.
It gets tireing when people who pick up my rifle tell me my dot is on. Five years of battery life, why would I ever turn it off? |

What mount are you using for your Aimpoint?-ARMS, but if I was going to buy a new one I would get a LaRue instead, better design What part of the rail do you mount your Aimpoint, and why? The hump on the ras II At what range did you sight in your Aimpoint? 50 yards What is the longest distance you can consistently shoot minute-of-man groups? a little over 300 yards How did you handle the hold-over at longer distances? I held a little high at 300, I have no idea if that is right but it worked What size dot were you using? 4moa Have you ever had, or heard of any bad experiences with your Aimpoint? No-well Tiger McGee criticizes aimpoints, saying that he sees people forget to put the caps down or turn it on all the time. My personal experience, for whatever that's worth, does not support that claim. |
Aimpoint M4, Built in mount.
The front edge of the receiver- leaves plenty of room for BUIS
50 yards
Only have used it out to 100 or so yards.
N/A
2MOA
No, but I still think the Circle/Dot reticle of my Eotechs is faster than just the dot. |

When I still had mine....
The standard QRP mount that Aimpoint sells w/ their optics.
Most fwd. part of the upper receiver
50 yards.
200 is the farthest I ever got the chance of trying w/ the Aimpoint and that was w/ a 4MOA reticle....tricky.
....as above...the farthest I shot was 200 w/ it...didn't really have to do any hold over.
4MOA
Some ppl don't like the fact that they're easily turned on which has happened many times on me. However w/ the long battery life...who cares. One thing I would improve is between each brightness setting...have an off setting. That way one doesn't have to rotate clear around to where they need the brightness. |

What mount are you using for your Aimpoint? A: Aimpoint quick release mount. What part of the rail do you mount your Aimpoint, and why? A: Mid way on the upper. So it clears the BUIS but gives a big field of view. At what range did you sight in your Aimpoint? A: 100m What is the longest distance you can consistently shoot minute-of-man groups? A: I have shot the Army Qual course at 300m, hitting all 300m targets. How did you handle the hold-over at longer distances? A: Aim at head for shots 200m or longer. What size dot were you using? A: CompM2 Have you ever had, or heard of any bad experiences with your Aimpoint? A: None at all. They can survive a IED blast. |
Aimpoints are my favorite optics to shoot with. Mark |

QRP on my NG-issued M4 Larue straight mount on my personal
Forward edge of the rail, I think it balances the gun better that way
25m
300m (Army qual course)
I didn't really even think about it. I hit the 300m qual targets just fine.
4MOA
The rubber lens cover sucks ass. I took it off and didn't worry about caps. I've left it on a few times, but I haven't killed a battery yet. The knob on the QRP mount is annoying and gets in the way. |
Larue All the way foward, cuz I like it there 50 yards 300 No hold over, just point and click 4 moa Negative This was on a suppressed LMT 10.5" if you're interested. |

Seems like most of you guys are using the 4MOA. I emailed LaRue about their package deals.....they said the 2MOA was a better "general purpose" set up. Do you guys agree or not? Sorry for the dumb question......buying my first red dot and don't know which is better. Thanks, Sean |
I just bought a 2MOA, the dot is small. It seems about the same as the center dot on an Eotech, even those are supposed to be 1MOA. I like to practice on shotgun clays at 100 yards, a 4MOA would block my view of them entirely, so I'm happy. If I was doing just up close and personal stuff, I'd definetly be looking for a 4MOA. |
Have you tried turning up the brightness to make the dot seem bigger? |
I have two of the 2moa versions and they work very well for me. As is mentioned, if you go to the highest illumination settings it's so bright that the dot sorta blooms out a bit and looks larger. USMC03 reports here that he's had better luck with the 4moa version in very bright light environments. I haven't noticed any problems with my 2moa sights, but I don't commonly deal with snow scenes and I use a reasonably powered light for indoor/CQB. |

What mount are you using for your Aimpoint? ARMS cantalever mount. What part of the rail do you mount your Aimpoint, and why? As far forward on the Upper reciverr as possible. 1 no rail, 2 need roome for BUIS and 3x mag. At what range did you sight in your Aimpoint? 50/200 yards What is the longest distance you can consistently shoot minute-of-man groups? Have hit USPSA targets at 300 meter. (never shot farther) How did you handle the hold-over at longer distances? at 300 meter no holdover needed. What size dot were you using? 4 MOA Have you ever had, or heard of any bad experiences with your Aimpoint? dame killflash got full of mud once. |
One other thing I learned on this board with using a 2MOA dot is to close the front flip up cover in bright areas and use both eyes. This works very well in bright areas or on reddish colored targets were a color contrast makes it hard to see the dot on target. You can keep the brightness setting low and have a finer dot.
