I am getting ready to purchase my first AR and (until I can buy another dedicate rig ) I would like to set it up for both plinking/defense and coyote hunting out to ~200 yards.  I am getting a flat top and I would like to be able to switch between my Aimpoint and a scope for these two uses.  I am interested in a quick detach setup to save some wrench time if possible.  I also want to set up the Aimpoint so that it is cowitnessed with iron sights.  Any suggestions on specific setups that have worked for you would be greatly appreciated!

ARMS #22M68 for the Aimpoint

ARMS #22 rings for the scope, or ARMS #19 base with ARMS rings for a single platform.

You may want to also get a full spacer for the #22M68.  If you'll have a regular front sight, it'll help bring the Aimpoint up to clear more of the front sight.

With #22 rings, first mount them on the receiver, pushing the front ring forward and the rear ring backward before you lock 'em down with the throw levers. Then mount the scope in them, and adjust it's position to get things right. This way, when you remove and reinstall the scope, it will be in EXACTLY the same position every time.

Thanks for the input!  How much clearance will I need on the #22 rings to see over a standard front sight?

I see the ARMS #22 High Ring set also provides a space on the bottom to view your iron sights.  Anyone used a set of these for that purpose?

Does this provide enough space to view all sights, i.e., standard A2 vs. fold-down such as ARMS #40 rear, and being higher can you see the front post?

Are there any disadvantages to this 'high' ring set other than the scope mounts up alittle higher?
