Ok so I'm thinking about purchasing an AR here soon. However, I plan on joining the marines in the next several years. Does anyone know if I can carry my personal weapon instead of the standard issue rifle they will issue me? And any ideas what to get as my first Black Rifle? Thanks..

Welcome

No, you get what they issue you. You are in the right place to find the AR of your dreams. Just getting started with AR's I would lurk around and see what everyone else is using. If you have any questions just ask.

In my humble opinion, you have to ask yourself what you are looking for.  If you want to have everything as close to mil spec as possible, then you will want to go with a Colt.  But, with the Colt, comes a $1400 price tag.  If you are looking for a rifle to take out to the range and maybe some classes, then there are a lot of brands that will fit your needs.

I have a Rock River, which I am very happy with.  Less expensive than the Colt, but, again, in my opinion, an excellent rifle.  You'll find a wealth of knowledge here and plenty of suggestions for some great AR's.

Yeah I mean I've been reading a lot and see that most people like to buy the lower and upper and build their own. But for me just starting out in this I'm not sure on buying them like this and not buying a complete set for my first rifle. It's suppose to be cheaper buying them apart and building it yourself but it worries me doing that with my first one lol

Totally understandable...you don't want to bite off more than you can chew.  I think you'll find an affordable, complete AR that will fit your needs.  Then, for your second or third you can try the build.

These aren't 1911s with fitted parts...

Buy the components you want (either complete upper & lower or "a la carte")
assemble and enjoy! VERY modular system.
