Hi, folks.

I'm finishing my 16" M4 project, but I wanted forego optics for the time being in the spirit mastering irons.  I thought I'd go with the Larue BUIS as a primary sighting option for a while, making a good barebones carbine.  I really like the Troy folding sight, too, and would be great when I decide to smack some magnified optics (likely a TR21/EER combo) on there--a long way off.  I could always sell the Larue when it comes time to go for optics, too.  What would you folks do in my shoes?  Larue or Troy as primary sighting options for a while?

Thanks!

If you might get magnified optics get the Troy.  It is currently my only sight on my M4 as I wait for the release of the NF 1-4X scopes and I could not be more pleased with it save some cosmetic issues.

Hmmm.  Thanks for the  input.  I might do it after all.  Anyone have any dissenting views?

Get the Troy now, practice with what you'll be using.

haha  I know it!  I'm holding off on optics for a while, because I'm moving to NYC and I've already overspent on a rifle I'm not even bringing with me.  Otherwise, that combo might be living at my place already.

since you have future plans of optics why not get the troy now so you wont have to worry about it later.

Well, it'll be a long while off.  I'd say a year due to funds and my living arrangements.  I thought a fixed BUIS would be better for long-term use, and I'd have the option of saving money by buying the pair if needbe down the road.  That's my rationale.  I'm also trying to save the $50 or so bucks difference between the two until I have some more money handy.

I agree with everyone esle. If the plan is to get something that requires a flip up later, why not just get it now?

I will be the disenting vote.

If you want a BIS and are going to have it on for a long time - get a fixed.
1) Its cheaper
2) Its more rugged

IF you do decide on a Magnified sight later - you can
1) get a new BIS and save the fixed or sell it
2) not use a BIS - I mean if the optics etc are not a big concern it does not sound like you want this for duty or defence...

Man, I hope there is a HUGE financial incentive for you to move to this shithole.  Ain't nothin' cheap, and the people are rude, not to mention anti-gun.

Otherwise, the rest of NY (beyond Westchester Co.) is an alright place to live.

Short answer, yes.  Someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse, but its a temporary move and I should be able to pick where I live after a few years.  Any thoughts on BUIS?  haha

I agree to a point.
If he knows he's going to put a flip up on it later, it's cheaper to not buy twice.
I got the LMT for my CAV15 because I know I'm not going to put an optic on it.
Prior to the introduction of the Troy, I got the ARMs #40 for my M4gery because I knew I wanted an aimpoint on it.
When I got my RECCE, I got a TROY because I knew I was getting an ACOG.
May as well master the irons that you're going to be using.
