Hey guys, I'm doing som trading with a guy for his m16
Parts kit, the problem is the finish is black. Does this mean it was arsenal refinished at some point? Will you guys still love me if I keep it black? |

It's a 603 kit w/FA and trapdoor stock, I'll get the kit for 500.00 and braceman is making a lower next week.
I do t think it has any hr/ gm marks on it, but I didn't look that close. Hr would have the extra flash on the back of receiver , what else should I look for? I'll have it thur and post pics |
| The later M-16's and many CH code, CMP Chrome Bore post 74, like the kits from a couple years ago were both grey and black and I don't think any were refinished, the one's that I saw anyway. When ordering parts from Apex I received both black and grey parts to the point I recommended to everyone here to specifically ask for grey in comments box if grey was desired. Since no authentic barrels were included I'm gonna assume they were Colt grey. The later produced Colt CMP Chrome Bore barrels both rifle and carbine were more blackish. Probably just depended on batch of parkerizing on particular day as I'm sure they had a protocol just like McDonalds changing and filtering the grease to cook fries. Sometimes it's day fresh and sometimes it isn't. Preference to color is dependent on individual. I like and don't mind either if original finish. Not really a fan of the gritty thick re-arsenal stuff but if earlier model pieces I can easily overcome this. |
| I've seen the gritty black refinished receivers painted gray with Norrells molly resin and it turned a ugly part into a pretty nice part. Does anyone offer this as a service so you don't have to buy a whole bottle of the stuff and learn to paint it yourself? |

You can even use a testors air-can airbrush kit to apply... |
