Most people call them C7 receivers after the Canadian rifle (do a search on "C7" here and you will find loads of posts like this one:
http://archery.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=3&f=123&t=527151 They were also sold commercially as the layout wasn't that uncommon in the early 90s especially since some of us like the idea of a 16 inch pencil barrel with basic uncomplicated sights (unlike the A2). Mine also has the A2 aperture installed which gives you a ghost ring for up close and then a smaller peep for longer distance (optics are cool but irons can get it done) combined with a Trijicon front post. |

. When did the brass deflector start appearing on uppers? ] 1980-1985 with the m16a1e1. Colt model 645(?). In the mid 80s, the m16a2 came out and all of them has the bump. Also in the mid 80's, Canada had the A1 style upper with the bump and the rest of the rifle was 'A2'. friggin canadians

That one's sitting on an A2 lower...since no one mentioned that half. Not sure if you were asking about the whole rifle or just the upper. 733's came in A1 and A2 lowers. However, my replica is not one found in nature because the Type II stocks were only seen on the A1 lowers. I slapped the Type II on my A2 lower becuase I like it even though it is not authentic.
