you guys are going to think im stupid

how do i look through it? even if i get it im still gonna practice with my irons alot but i see people and magazines saying you should shoot with 2 eyes open because its "tactical". how do you do this do you have both eyes look through the sight or have your dominant eye look through it and your other eye just forward?

thanks guys

Look through it with both eyes. Make sure to take a picture of your technique and post it here

But seriously, you're only going to be looking through it with your dominant eye, the other will be to the side.

an easy way to understand how the both eye open concept works is to cover the lense then raise your rifle toward the target sighting like you would with a traditional scope . then open the non dominant eye and the dot will appear on the target . if your having trouble shooting with both eyes open this is a good way to train yourself to do so . clear as mud right ? just try it and you will see what I mean its easier to do than explain it.

Pretty much covered in the occluded eye concept.  Also known as Bindon Aiming Concept or BAC.  This is how military is trained to use ACOGs both eyes open.

But, from a purely practical standpoint, begin with the optic off of the gun.  Hold it in your hand.   Look downrange with both eyes open.   Raise the red dot, turned on, and out at arms length, until it enters the field of vision of your dominant eye.  Don't look at the optic or even the dot.  Just keep both eyes looking at the target.  The dot will merge with your target.   Practice this a few times and then put it on your rifle and go shooting.  Both eyes open, just looking both eyes at the target.  The dot will merge onto the target..  It will become an instinct and you will not think about it.

This is one of the reasons that such optics are not sensitive to eye relief or parallax.   It really does not matter where you put it.  Some like it in fairly close, others like it out farther.  They are used on pistols at arms length.  You don't even need to center the dot in the optic.   Just move the dot to the target and shoot.  Anywhere you can see the dot, placed on your target, will produce a hit if it is sighted in properly.
