Seemed like a good, if not definitive, write up. I think most people you ask will say for a sub $2k rifle they are good to go, especially with a new trigger. Since its primarily for hunting that might not even be an issue.

My kinda SASS was a 24" DPMS stainless like the standard LR-308.
I've never had a problem hitting .90 even with terrible ammo

I sighted one in for a friend and it shot a 3 shot group you could cover with a dime.

I have a Gisselle in mine and a friend who has a Knights SR25 was impressed with how it stacked up to his rifle in a precision rifle match.

If you are happy with the DPMS in .223 you'll be happy with the R25 since it's made by DPMS. Stock trigger is not very good but most of the "entry level" AR's will be the same on that. I don't have any first hand expierence with the R25 but I do have a DPMS LR308 and it remains near the top of my list when I pick who's going to the range. I added a JP adjustable trigger to mine and it will shoots very well with the right load. I'd say for the dollar amount you get a good value from Remington (DPMS) especially for a hunting platform.

I have one.  It is the most accurate gun in my safe.  .5 MOA with my handloads and .75 with most decent factory stuff.  It is a heavy rifle but then all SASS/.308AR rifles are.  The trigger has about ten miles of creep but you can clean it up and take out the slack because the lower is tapped all the way through.  A new trigger is coming at Christmas.

I put a BMC charging handle in mine to give me more clearance to charge it under the scope.  I use pMag, LR20 magazines in mine, the stock magazine is a baulky DPMS 5rnd.

Mine is hunting rifle, and is used as Remington expected it to be.  It is not a race gun so there is no comp on it, which is nice, it keeps your ears intact when you shoot from the stand.

I will be putting mine on EE soon, have a project that I'm working on now.

My understanding with the R-25 series is that they are a product of Remington being part of the Freedom Group.  What that allows is more close relationships between some of the manufacturers, however, while the receivers, bolt carrier group, and small parts might be sourced from the same machine shops, the barrels are Remington on the R-25.

The R-25's are clearly geared to the hunting market, and the barrels are lightweight profile in nature compared to the heavier DPMS bull barrels on the LR-308 series.

The flutes are for looks and only forward of the gas block.

Would an R25 make a start for a good/decent semi auto precision rifle? Maybe with a trigger upgrade anyway.

I would like to add a semiauto precision gun but don't have unlimited funds.

That's exactly what I did... I ran the gun thru the Remington Custom Shop and aded a Giselle trigger and it shoots on par with my buddy's SR25!

Interdasting... Seems like a relatively inexpensive (by comparison) way to get an AR SAPR.  Thanks.
