Convince me to buy or not to buy a RRA 9mm. I have been looking at these for a while and I just can't decide. I am sold on the cost of ammo but have some questions about reliability. My searches show only some limited problems with loose ejectors but other than that how do they run? I have heard that they are very accurate at reasonable distances. Any input or feelings one way or the other? Its a toss up between this and a RRA .308 when they come out. |
| I have an RRA midlength upper in 9mm that I've had for about a month. We used it at a sports shooting fair recently and put approx. 3000 rounds through it without a single hitch. It was shot for three days and cleaned every night between use because this thing was really put through some punishing, constant shooting. We used both the Hy-Tech mag adapter for unmodified uzi magazines and the RRA magwell adapter to be used with both slotted uzi mags or factory Colt 32 rounders with which I could use the bolt hold-open feature and they both worked 100%. I have heard incidents where the RRA block can come loose occasionally and that the ejectors can do the same but so far no problems of that type have cropped up. They're great to use as a low cost carbine platform for plinking or side matches at pistol competitions(though they also have dedicated matches for these specifically). For a few years I had resisted in getting one for the same reasons as you but now I'm glad i did it. It probably gets shot more than my 5.56 upper due to ammo costs. |

my RRA 9mm has 2150 rnds down the tube. the only issue that i ever have had was with those RRA mags . they had weak springs and the round would slam into the barrel ext. very accurate rifle by the way . this will punch a single hole at 50yds. with an aimpoint. fun and cheap to shoot. my recomindation: BUY THREE OF'EM AR out |
MY gun was built about 2 years ago buy me with all RRA stuff and I have no problem now in the past it was ammo it did not like UMC I think it was under power. It loves W.M.WWB. I have dumped my Beta mag real quick with no problems. Colt mags have been the best, the Promags are ok for range use.

Go for it. My experience with my factory RRA 9mm A4 carbine has been very positive. I have a bolt-catch that doens't like to hold the bolt back but the RRA rep has already advised me to just send it in and they'll fix it. I'm waiting until summer's over of course. Mags are kind of tough to find at a reasonable price but if you look you can find them and CProducts is supposed to be working on mags as we speak. You can also buy Uzi mags here and there are specs out there for you to cut or have them cut to work in the RRA/Colt 9mm system. 9mm ARs are a super good time, IMHO. +1 from me on getting one. How many votes do you require before you decide? Good luck, Scott |

Well its off to the races! I have decided to get one. Now I just need to find one at a good price. Best I have seen so far for a RRA 9mm CAR is Jensen arms at $849 with no Carry handle but no problem I have a NIW RRA A2 detachable carry handle in my parts collection. thanks for all the input. Looks like Eagle Firearms, also here in Colorado has the Colt 32 round mags for $58 and the PRI mags for $19, I will have to get at least one of each to see what I like. thanks again |

FYI...I have the first commercial 9mm conversion upper we sold (before I even worked here). It's a mid-length, AWB compliant A$ with a gas block and a crowned muzzle (no brake or FH). I had 7000 rounds through it in the first two months, and probably another 10,000 in the several years since then. I've tried just about every ammo in it...most worked, some didn't (Blazer and wad cutters ofany sort to name the worst offenders). My block has never come loose, and I dedicated the lower to that build so I don't take parts in and out. Even with factory support downthe hall from me, I haven't needed to use it. Steve/RRA |

WOW! 17000 rounds fired! Thats more than I would shoot it in two maybe three lifetimes. Sounds like these things really run well. How is cleaning them? Since they are blow back operated and have no locking lugs on the bolt or in the barrel/chamber area I guess these features make cleaning a real breeze. Am I wrong on this guess? Sounds like lots of guys have good luck with WWB ammo. Any recomendations on other brands of ammo to use or avoid? Looks like Blazer is out, no loss. How about Magtech, or Seller and Bellot? both are cheap locally and on line along with WWB 115grainers the best for the 1 in 10 twist or does RRA recomend another weight. |

It was December when I got mine, and I spent days (literally) at the indoor range "playing". That's how you go through 7000 rounds in two months. Then reality and wallet shocj took over and I had to ssllooww way down. When I dedicated that lower to it, I blue Loc-Tited a second set screw behind the one that is normally in the block to keep it from being able to loosen. They're easier to clean, but are dirtier to begin with. 115gr and 124gr have worked well for me, and is still fairly available at somewhat reasonable prices. Steve/RRA |

I have one that I built from parts...all RRA. I use the RRA bottom loading block. It would NEVER stay in place with the set screw/plungers. I did the tighten set screw and add a second on top of it. If you put in a loaded mag and tap the bottom....the block slides up ever-so-slightly and now rubs the bolt and slows it down and causes problems. I am not saying this sucks or anything....I just decided that my RRA 9mm was always going to be just that and I drilled and tapped a holew with small screw in the front of the receiver just under the front pivot pin ears. NOW it is 100%....I love it. I will be SBRing it very soon. It even likes the cheap Polymere Promags.....locks open everytime when empty. |
