I've got a RRA CAR-A4 and have since put almost 2,000 rounds through it without a single failure. My bolt carrier group is staked and has the shrouded firing pin but it is semi auto since there is only a small portion at the rear that completes the circle. It has one of those blue inserts with the extractor spring as well.

Would it be worth it to upgrade my BCG to say a full auto Colt or LMT? Of course it might sound unnecessary since I have not had any failures yet but I am always looking for ways to increase reliability and quality of the weapon.

Also, would the Colt be worth the extra money over the LMT?

I have found the LMT going for about $130 and the Colt for $175.

ETA - I've already ordered two D-Fender's from Brownells as well.

If you are worried about your bolt breaking, CMT, LMT, and Colt all have MPI bolts.  The carrier wouldn't be a worry of mine if its staked properly.

Uhm, ever heard the phrase "If it aint broke, don't fix it"?

You say it's 100% reliable, yet you want it to be more reliable.

Stop being a gear whore and go shoot your gun.

No way - an ARFCOMer calling me a gear whore for looking into the possibility of a better BCG! Thanks for the advice man!

If it's working fine I'd be inclined to say don't mess with it.

But if you want insurance, follow Stick's advice above.

Buy a spare bolt carrier group and run the one you have until it breaks. Then swap in the new one and buy another spare for whatever it was that broke.

I have stopped using spare parts and am investing in spare rifles...

I did that, now I have to spend even more money for a new safe. Then I can fill it up again

Why do they even make the semi carrier different than the auto carrier in the first place?  Is there a reason there is less metal on the semi?  Does more metal slow down the rate of fire?

More metal slows down the rate of fire.  Not sure the exact history of the Semi/FA divide.

So WECSOGs couldn't make automatic weapons.
